Phase equilibria of binary systems with carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide-philic materials
Dumanlılar, Beril.; Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ; Department of Chemical Engineering (2019)
Phase behavior investigations in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) permit design and development of new and environmentally friendly supercritical fluid processes. Recently polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) modified with certain functional groups have been found to be soluble in supercritical CO2. In this thesis, solubilities of methacrylisobutyl POSS (MIBPOSS) and methacrylisooctyl POSS (MIOPOSS) in scCO2 have been studied. In the structure of these molecules, one of the eight branched alkyl ...
Phase Equilibria of Binary Systems with CO2 and Bifunctional Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes
Dumanlılar, Beril; Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ (2018-09-01)
Solubility and phase behavior investigations of novel materials in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) permit design and advancement of new and environmentally friendly supercritical fluid processes. Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is called as a green solvent because it is non-toxic, non-flammable, inexpensive, and abundant. Its use in a process instead of an organic solvent can eliminate the emissions of volatile organic components. Also, due to its nonpolar structure,it can dissolve nonpolar molecu...
Phase behavior of beta-D galactose pentaacetate-carbon dioxide binary system
Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ; Gulari, Esin (Elsevier BV, 2006-01-31)
Phase behavior of beta-D galactose pentaacetate-carbon dioxide binary system is investigated by dew-point and bubble-point measurements conducted in a high pressure variable volume sapphire cell. The phase envelope for solutions of beta-D galactose pentaacetate in supercritical M is obtained for beta-D galactose pentaacetate concentrations between 2 and 26 wt%, and for the temperature range of 308-323 K. The system exhibits lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior and high solubility of beta-D ga...
Phase Behavior of Carbon Dioxide and Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes with Two Different Functional Groups
Dumanlilar, Beril; Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
Phase behavior of carbon dioxide and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) modified with two different functional groups is studied in the temperature range of 308-323 K, up to 22 MPa. Different than the common types, one of the eight functional groups attached to the Si atoms of these POSS is a CO2-philic functional group, methacryl, while the rest are branched alkyl chains, either isooctyl (MIOPOSS) or isobutyl (MIBPOSS). Methacrylisobutyl POSS-CO2 binary system exhibits pressure-induced melting te...
