Vacuum decay and the transmission resonances in space-dependent electric fields
Dumlu, Cesim K. (2014-03-11)
We investigate the decay of a quantum electrodynamical (QED) vacuum in arbitrary space-dependent electric fields. In particular, we analyze the resonance peaks of the positron emission spectrum for the external fields with subcycle structure. For this, we study the transmission probability in the framework of the scattering approach to vacuum pair production. In an under-the-barrier scattering regime, we show that the width of a transmission resonance can be enhanced when the effective scattering potential ...
Vacuum-processed polyethylene as a dielectric for low operating voltage organic field effect transistors
Kanbur, Yasin; Irimia-Vladu, Mihai; Glowacki, Eric D.; Voss, Gundula; Baumgartner, Melanie; Schwabegger, Guenther; Leonat, Lucia; Ullah, Mujeeb; Sarica, Hizir; ERTEN ELA, ŞULE; Schwoediauer, Reinhard; Sitter, Helmut; Kucukyavuz, Zuhal; Bauer, Siegfried; Sariciftci, Niyazi Serdar (2012-05-01)
We report on the fabrication and performance of vacuum-processed organic field effect transistors utilizing evaporated low-density polyethylene (LD-PE) as a dielectric layer. With C-60 as the organic semiconductor, we demonstrate low operating voltage transistors with field effect mobilities in excess of 4 cm(2)/Vs. Devices with pentacene showed a mobility of 0.16 cm(2)/Vs. Devices using tyrian Purple as semiconductor show low-voltage ambipolar operation with equal electron and hole mobilities of similar to...
Vacuum membrane applications in domestic wastewater reuse
Komesli, Okan Tank; Teschner, Katharina; Hegemann, Wemer; Gokcaya, Celal F. (2007-09-05)
A flat type membrane bioreactor (MBR) with a pore size of 0.038 mu m and having a total surface area of 540 m(2) was operated intermittently for over a year in METU campus at Ankara to treat domestic effluents from dormitories and academic village. At the first stage the MBR plant was operated continuously for 140 days with hydraulic retention times ranging between 18 and 22 h. During this period, sludge concentration increased from an initial 2.4 g/L to 21 g/L. The plant consistently produced fully nitrifi...
