Detection of BCR/ABL gene rearrangement and the elimination of rearranged clone in chronic myelocytic leukemia patients
Eren, E; Aytac, U; Tetik, E; Akman, O; Kansu, E; Gündüz, Ufuk (2000-02-01)
Cytogenetic and molecular studies were performed on 20 interferon-alpha receiving Turkish chronic myelocytic leukemia patients. Four different restriction endonucleases and bcr-G probe were used for southern blot analysis to detect rearrangements of the bcr gene. The RT-PCR method was also applied to detect chimeric bcr/abl mRNA. Seventeen patients showed a chromosomal break within the 5.8 kb M-bcr region by southern blot analysis while three cases out of 20 have not shown any rearrangement. These three cas...
Detection of imatinib and doxorubicin resistance in k562 leukemia cells by 3d-electrode contactless dielectrophoresis
Demircan, Yağmur; Külah, Haluk; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is a MEMS-enabled technique defined as the relative movement of particles and medium under nonuniform electric field. DEP can be utilized for biomedical applications manipulating biological particles based on their dielectric properties and sizes. For example, cancer cells are different than normal tissue cells in terms of both their sizes and dielectric properties, leading to the potential use of DEP in early cancer detection. DEP can provide even the separation of cells with simila...
Detection of imatinib resistance in K562 leukemia cells by 3D-electrode contactless dielectrophoresis
Demircan, Y.; Koyuncuoglu, A.; Erdem, Murat; Ozgur, E.; Gündüz, Ufuk; Külah, Haluk (2013-12-01)
This paper presents the trapping of imatinib resistant K562 (human chronic myelogenic leukemia (CML), K562/IMA) cells with 3D-electrode contactless dielectrophoresis (DEP). 3D electrodes are isolated from the solution by means of uniform thin parylene layer (~0.3μm), to eliminate the Joule heating, electrolysis, and cell damaging. 3D electrodes (extruded along the microchannel in z-axis) provide uniform distribution of DEP force along the channel height, improving the separation efficiency, significantly. I...
Detection of helminth eggs and protozoan cysts in wastewaters
Davutluoğlu, Ayten; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi; Department of Environmental Engineering (2005)
The withdrawal of water sources concluded the reuse of treated wastewaters, especially for non-potable purposes. Agricultural use of the reclaimed wastewaters is one of the reuse options. However health considerations of the reuse of reclaimed wastewaters for public related purposes are underestimated, since wastewaters contain a variety of microbial pathogens, which may be transmitted to workers and consumers through the crops irrigated. Of these, parasitic eggs have a special place, as they are capable of...
Detection of Possible Significant Metabolites by Comparison of Metabolic Simulation Profiles of Healthy and Breast Cancer Tissues
Akkuzu Özyeşer, Selin; Bülbül, Abdullah Alper; Başaran, Gül; Sezerman, Osman Uğur (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Enformatik Enstitüsü; 2022-10)
Breast cancer is the most frequent malignancy in women worldwide and is curable in ~70–80% of patients with early- stage, non- metastatic disease. In Breast cancer there are pathways related to Luminal A breast cancer, Luminal B breast cancer, HER2 positive breast cancer, Basal like/Triple negative breast cancer. The crucial signal transduction pathways in a breast cancerous cell includes pathways like PKB (protein kinase B), MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase), MTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin), Fas...
