Assessment of kinematic rock slope failures in Mudurnu Valley, Turkey
Arslan Kelam, Arzu; Akgün, Haluk (2021-09-06)
Slope instabilities are one of the most frequent natural hazards capable of causing severe failures both at regional and large scales. Mudurnu, which is settled on a steep valley, is affected by regional rock slope instabilities. These instabilities constitute a hazard and create an important risk to the community since they threaten human lives, settlement areas, and historically-important structures. In order to minimize the hazard and risk associated with slope instabilities, rock masses along the valley...
Evaluation of rock excavatability and slope stability along a segment of motorway, Pozanti, Turkey
KENTLİ, BERKAY; Topal, Tamer (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2004-07-01)
The Ciftehan-Pozanti segment of the Ankara-Pozanti motorway is problematic due to the existence of lithological units with variable character. Seven cut slopes are planned along Km 358+000- Km 364+350 of the proposed motorway. The purpose of this study is to determine engineering geological properties of the rocks exposed along the motorway and to assess the excavatability and stability of the cut slopes. Both field and laboratory studies were carried out during this study. Field studies involved geological...
Assessment of rockfall hazard around Afyon Castle, Turkey
Topal, Tamer; Ozden, Utku Ahmet (2007-09-01)
The Afyon Castle is a tourist destination and a historical site in the City of Afyon in Turkey. The Castle is located on a steep hill, with a height of 226 m. In close proximity to the Castle there are settlements. The hill consists of trachitic andesite. The rock contains columnar joints and flow layering. Owing to these discontinuities, blocks of varying sizes had fallen down. The settlement areas near the Castle are now in danger because of the rockfall risk. In this study, rockfall analysis was carried ...
Evaluation of Water-Energy Nexus in Sakarya River Basin, Turkey
Özcan, Zeynep; Alp, Emre (null; 2018-11-14)
Evaluation of Water-Energy Nexus in Sakarya River Basin, Turkey
Özcan, Zeynep; Alp, Emre (2020-01-01)
Achieving sustainable water-energy relationship is especially important for semi-arid regions. Water consumption due to electricity generation can reach up to 8.4% of the total water potential in the study area. Between 659 and 2851 m(3) of water is found to be consumed per GWh of electricity generated at cooling systems.
