EMPIRICAL SOLUTION MODEL FOR ALKALIC TO THOLEIITIC BASIC MAGMAS
Çamur, Mehmet Zeki (1995-04-01)
Currently available models to simulate naturally occurring mineral-melt equilibria use mineral components limited to tholeiitic basalt compositions and thus they cannot be used for alkali-rich basalts and basanites. To expand mineral-melt equilibria calculations to alkali-rich composition space at low pressures, we have derived equations that describe chemical equilibria between olivine-melt, pyroxene-melt, plagioclase-melt, nepheline-melt and leucite-melt components. Excess free energies of reactions betwe...
EMPIRICAL FORMULATION OF BRIDGE INDUCTANCE IN INDUCTIVELY TUNED RF MEMS SHUNT SWITCHES
Topallı, Kagan.; ÜNLÜ, MEHMET; Atasoy, Halil İbrahim; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Demir, Şimşek; AKIN, TAYFUN (2009-01-01)
This paper presents a substrate independent empirical formulation for the bridge inductance of inductively tuned RF MEMS shunt switches, allowing a systematic design approach to tune their isolation bands. Inductive tuning of RF MEMS switches is achieved by inserting recesses in the ground plane and meanders to the bridges, allowing the tuning of the isolation band of the switch from the X-band to the mm-wave band. The bridge inductance is first extracted from parametric EM simulations of the RF MEMS shunt ...

Empirical correlations for estimating filtrate volume of water based drilling fluids
Ozbayoglu, Evren; Gunes, Cagri; Apak, Esat C.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Iscan, A. Gurkan (Informa UK Limited, 2005-03-01)
Standard American Petroleum Institute (API) filter press is generally used for identifying the filtrate volume of drilling fluids and works only at very low pressures. In fact, during a drilling operation, at downhole conditions, the pressures encountered are significantly higher than what is used during standard API filter press tests. A relationship between the well-known fluid properties and the filtrate volume test is developed. In this study, experiments have been conducted for different water-clay mix...
Empirical Comparison of Random and Periodic Surface Light-Trapping Structures for Ultrathin Silicon Photovoltaics
BRANHAM, Matthew; HSU, WeiCsun; Yerci, Selçuk; LOOMİS, James; BORİSKİNA, Svetlana; HOARD, Brittany; HAN, Sang Eon; EBONG, Abasifreke; CHEN, Gang (2016-06-01)
Pyramidal light-trapping structures of a range of length scales — and both periodic and random arrangements — are shown to yield similarly high absorption in thin film crystalline silicon photovoltaics. Through the combination of results from experiment and simulation, the trade-off between absorption effectiveness and ease of fabrication of various pyramidal light-trapping structures is investigated for application in thin-film crystalline silicon solar cells.
