Poster Abstract: MapSentinel: Map-Aided Non-intrusive Indoor Tracking in Sensor-Rich Environments
Jia, Ruoxi; Jin, Ming; Zou, Han; Yesilata, Yigitcan; Xie, Lihua; Spanos, Costas (2015-11-05)
Estimating an occupant's location is arguably the most fundamental sensing task in smart buildings. Existing indoor tracking systems require occupants to carry specialized devices or install programs on their smartphones to collect inertial sensing data. In this paper, we propose MapSentinel, which performs non-intrusive location sensing based on WiFi access points and ultrasonic sensors. MapSentinel also combines the noisy sensor readings with the floormap information. Instead of using floormap merely to c...
Context-awareness in ubiquitous computing and the mobile devices
Akcit, Nuhcan; Tomur, Emrah; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur (2015-03-19)
Mobile device use has vastly increased in the last few years. Many people use many mobile devices in their daily lives. Context-aware computing is the main feature of pervasive and ubiquitous computing. Context awareness is also an important topic that becomes more available with ubiquitous computing. As the sensors increase, the data collected via mobile device sensors and sensor networks do not have much value because of the difficulty in analysis and understanding the data. Context-aware computing helps ...
Demonstratives in the context of a collaborative problem solving task
Büyüktekin, Faruk; Çakır, Murat Perit; Temürcü, Ceyhan; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2018)
Multimodal user interfaces have become increasingly important. They are being used in various applications such as computer games, online education, simulations, and assistive technology. Such interfaces now can make use of inputs coming from different modalities such as speech and eye gaze. This multimodality enables situated dialogue between users and artificial agents, encouraging collaborative language use. Naturally, people need to refer to entities in the surrounding environment using demonstratives d...
Leisure constraints and negotiation strategies in tourism recreation: a comperative research with different cultures
Tek, Tolga; Koçak, Mehmet Settar; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2018)
The main problem of this study was to describe perceived constraints encountered and negotiation strategies utilized by foreign tourists in a recreational sport setting in different regions of Turkey. Moreover, discreteness in negotiation was examined according to gender, participation, the level and type of perceived constraint encountered. A questionnaire was conducted to a sample of randomly selected foreign tourists in different regions from Turkey. The modification study of Leisure Constraints Question...
Ideology of sustainable architecture: a critique
Yalman, Onur Lami; Sargın, Güven Arif; Department of Architecture (2019)
The general consensus on Sustainable Architecture is that, it is the cure for the ecological crisis. However, neither sustainability, nor architecture exists in a vacuum, free of any connection to political struggle. Therefore, a thorough research must be conducted in order to uncover the roots of sustainability, and its relations to architecture. The objective of this thesis is to form a critique of sustainable architecture, and propose an emancipatory ecological architectural praxis. Current understanding...
