Performance evaluation of a wind driven DOIG using a hybrid model
Cadirci, I; Ermiş, Muammer (1998-06-01)
This paper presents the performance analysis of a wind driven double output induction generator (DOIG) operating at varying shaft speeds. A periodic transient state analysis of DOIG equipped with two controlled converters is carried out using a hybrid induction machine model. It is shown that practical aspects of converters such as overlap and harmonics reduce the power output of the DOIG system and limit the operating shaft speed range, especially in the subsynchronous region near the synchronous speed. Va...
Performance analysis of a solar chimney power plant for rural areas in Nigeria
Okoye, Chiemeka Onyeka; Taylan, Onur (2017-04-01)
Diverse renewable energy technologies are urgently needed, especially for developing countries. This paper aims to create awareness of solar chimney power plants (SCPP) as a viable and sustainable alternative in rural communities with limited or no access to the grid. The study considers site-specific hourly meteorological data in assessing the feasibility of SCPP in seven selected regions in Nigeria. A theoretical model was established for power output, levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and avoided carb...
Performance evaluation of routing protocols in wireless ad hoc networks with service differentiation
Yılmaz, Semra; Koçyiğit, Altan; Erten, Murat; Department of Information Systems (2003)
An ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically forming a temporary network without the use of any fixed network infrastructure or centralized administration. Due to the limitations in the wireless environment, it may be necessary for one mobile host to enlist the aid of other hosts in forwarding a packet to its destination. In order to enable communication within the network, a routing protocol is needed to discover routes between nodes. The primary goal of ad hoc network routing pro...
Performance assessment of RC frames with HCT brick infill walls rehabilitated with MRM by using pseudo dynamic test protocols
Ezzatfar, P.; Binici, Barış; Kurç, Özgür; Canbay, Erdem; Sucuoğlu, Haluk; Özcebe, G. (2013-01-01)
© 2013 Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. All rights reserved.Recently in Turkey, like in the other countries located in high-seismicity zones, strengthening of brick infill walls of reinforced concrete frames has become of more interest for researchers. Application of mesh reinforcement with mortar on existing brick infill walls of reinforced concrete (RC) frames is one of recommended seismic strengthening procedures in the Turkish Seismic Code (2007). This method is easy to apply and also helps to...
Performance Evaluation and Comparison of Single-Phase and Two-Phase Interleaving Flyback Micro-Inverters for Grid Connected PV Systems
Kavurucu, Semih; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2014-06-04)
Flyback converter based single-stage, microinverters are attractive solution for interfacing individual PV modules to the grid due to their low cost, high performance, ease of implementation, and galvanic isolation. In such applications, discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) of operation and interleaving techniques bring additional size and performance advantages such as eliminating reverse recovery loss, switching stress, EMI radiation, and improving efficiency. This paper focuses on performance evaluation o...
