DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS OF FLEXIBLE LINEAR SHAPED CHARGE (FLSC) TO NEARBY PLATES DUE TO VARYING BACKSPACE DISTANCE
Bingol, C. G.; Yıldırım, Raif Orhan (2011-09-16)
The objective of this study is to investigate the detrimental effects of a flexible linear shaped charge (FLSC) to variable thickness (3, 4 and 5 mm) Raex Ar 400 back plate and constant thickness (4.8 mm) Al-6061-T6 front plate due to varying backspace distance (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 mm). A FLSC is used to cut both metallic and non-metallic material, quickly and efficiently. It is flexible and may be formed to produce cuts of many configurations, thereby making it particularly useful where more conventional cu...

Unexpected soil amplification effect on seismic performance of highway bridges during the Aegean earthquake of October 2020, Mw 6.6
Muratoğlu, Gamze; Karakuş, Berk; Caner, Alp; Atak, Bengi (2021-01-01)
On October 30, 2020, an earthquake about 70 km away from the city center of Izmir with a 4.3 million population has shaken the city tremendously and has resulted in destruction of many building type of structures due to an unexpected high soil-amplified vibrations very similar to the Mexico City earthquake in 1985. The bridges at the soil-amplified sites has performed in elastic range with no damage at all. In the city of Izmir, the 42 year old twin bridges located on the main transportation route, were tre...
Interference effect of iron on the determination of gold in geological samples using the vapor generation technique and preconcentration in a graphite furnace
Ertaş, Gülay; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (2006-04-01)
A vapor generation procedure for the production of volatile species of An was studied using electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). The interference effects of iron in solution and in the gas phase in a quartz T-tube were studied for the first time in detail. A dual vapor generation system was used for a single heated quartz tube atomizer, so that it was possible to study interferences and classify them regarding their origins. Results show that both gas-phase and liquid-phase interferences a...
Cumulative Impact of Heavy Permit Trucks on Steel Bridges
Dicleli, Murat (1994-01-01)
In many parts of North America, special permits are issued to heavy vehicles without considering their cumulative effect on steel bridge components. Such overloads may initiate crack propagation and therefore shorten the service life of bridges. Here, a fatigue-based methodology is developed to assess the reduction in service life of bridges due to heavy permit-trucks.
