Optimization models for public debt management
Alver, Mustafa Uğur; Çağlar, Güven; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
Management of public debt is crucial for every country. Public debt managers make efforts to both minimize the cost of borrowing and to keep debt stock at sustainable levels. However, due to competition for funds in the continuously changing and developing financial markets, new threats and opportunities appear constantly. Public debt managers construct borrowing policies in order to minimize the cost of borrowing and also to decrease risk by using various borrowing instruments. This thesis presents a mathe...
Optimization approaches for classification and feature selection using overlapping hyperboxes
Akbulut, Derya; Özdemirel, Nur Evin; İyigün, Cem; Department of Industrial Engineering (2019)
In this thesis, an optimization approach is proposed for the binary classification problem. A mixed integer programming (MIP) model formulation is used to generate hyperboxes as classifiers. The hyperboxes are determined by lower and upper bounds on the feature values, and overlapping of hyperboxes is allowed to reach a balance between misclassification and overfitting. For the test phase, distance-based heuristic algorithms are also developed to classify the overlap and uncovered samples that are not class...

Optimization algorithms for resource allocation problem of air tasking order preparation
Bayrak, Ahmet Engin; Polat, Faruk; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
In recent years, evolving technology has provided a wide range of resources for Military forces. However, that wideness also caused resource management difficulties in combat missions. Air Tasking Order (ATO) is prepared for various missions of air combats in order to reach objectives by an optimized resource management. Considering combinatorial military aspects with dynamic objectives and various constraints; computer support became inevitable for optimizing the resource management in air force operations...
