A second harmonic based resonance characterization method for MEMS electrostatic resonators
Aydin, EREN; GOKCE, Furkan; Kangul, MUSTAFA; ZORLU, Ozge; Külah, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2018-05-01)
This paper presents a novel read-out approach both for eliminating parasitic feedthrough current and for enhancing the quality-factor (Q) of the resonating system at the same time. A new resonance characterization method based on sensing second harmonic component of the resonators was developed. Utilizing this method, the feedthrough current was eliminated and the signal-to-background ratio was increased from 0.9 dB to 35.5 dB. Furthermore, the Q of the resonating system was improved by 65% experimentally. ...
A Lower-bound limit analysis solution for lateralload capacity of masonry walls
Karadeniz, Derya; Erberik, Murat Altuğ; Department of Earthquake Studies (2019)
Masonry exists from very past centuries around the world which is used not only for sheltering, most of historical architectural masterpieces are masonry structures. Masonry offers advantages in many areas such as easy supply of materials, easy to construct and thermal durability of materials. However, the analysis of masonry buildings is not a easy task. Various reasons such as the diversity of materials used and the lack of characteristic properties of these materials, lack of design regulations and the f...
A novel zero-dead-volume sample loading interface for microfluidic devices: flexible hydraulic reservoir (FHR)
Hatipoğlu, Utku; ÇETİN, BARBAROS; Yıldırım, Ender (IOP Publishing, 2018-09-01)
Infusing minute amounts of valuable liquids such as samples to microfluidic chips by using common pumping schemes such as syringe pumps often result in an excessive dead-volume. We present a simple yet effective sample loading interface, which helps by pumping the sample to the chip by using the hydraulic pressure generated by the syringe pump. Results show that sample volumes as low as 25 mu l can be delivered at flow rates ranging between 10-30 mu l min(-1). Maximum dead volume ratio was observed to be 3%...
A novel integrated process for the functionalization of methane and ethane: bromine as mediator

We describe a novel, integrated multi-step process for the partial oxidation of alkanes to alcohols, ethers or olefins using O-2 as oxidant. The sequential transformations are (1) alkane bromination to alkyl bromide(s) and HBr, (2) reaction of this mixture with solid metal oxide (MO) to neutralize the HBr and to generate oxygenated products or olefins plus solid metal bromide, and (3) oxidation of the spent solid with 02 to regenerate the metal oxide and Br-2 for reuse.
A Microwave Imaging Model for Biomedical Applications
ÖZGÜN, ÖZLEM; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa (2017-07-14)
A microwave imaging model is presented for detection of breast cancer tissues by combining the finite element method and the transformation electromagnetics approach. An inverse scattering problem is formulated based on genetic optimization algorithm, and its expensive cost function evaluations are accelerated by using the transformation electromagnetics approach, which allows using a uniform or rectangular mesh even when irregular geometries are present inside the domain. Simulation results are demonstrate...
