This work presents a finite element based modellingtechnique suitable for the active vibration control of smart structures. A smart beam consists of an aluminum beam modelled in cantilevered configuration with surface bonded piezoelectric actuators. By using ANSYS(v.5.6) software, the study first gives the finite element modelling of the smart beam. Then by using experimental data, explains the method of the tuning the system model of the smart beam.

Design and experimental analysis of mechanical force generators for performance improvement of machines
Ekinci, Mehmet Burak; Soylu, Reşit; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
Recently, a novel overconstrained mechanism with favorable dynamic properties, namely the MFG (Mechanical Force Generator), has been proposed. This mechanism can provide a desired mechanical force, or power variation depending on the position of its input links. This power profile can be adjusted in order to improve the performance of a machine and its actuators that are connected to the MFG. In previous works, determination of an optimum power profile for the MFG and determination of the MFG design paramet...

Smart structures are constructed by the integration of active materials with passive structures. Those active materials are usually piezoelectric, electrostrictive, magnetostrictive and fiber optic materials. Smart structures are extensively used in recent engineering applications and provide the controlling of the passive structures. The studies involving the use of smart structures in the elimination of flutter, tail-buffet and blade-vortex interaction problems in aerospace structures due to vibration and...
Beam modulation in double gap virtual cathode oscillator
Küçük, İbrahim Semih; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
Vircator is a promising high power microwave device when its simplicity, frequency tunability, lack of external magnetic field source are considered. Vircator gains importance especially susceptibility testing to electromagnetic pulses of electronic equipments with its tunability. Apart from advantages, main bottleneck of the vircator is its low efficiency. Tunability and efficiency enhancement studies are still continued in literature. Double gap vircator draws attention due to its tunability, generation f...

Achievable coding rates for awgn and block fading channels in the finite blocklength regime
Vural, Mehmet; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
In practice, a communication system works with finite blocklength codes because of the delay constraints and the information-theoretic bounds which are proposed for finite blocklength systems can be exploited to determine the performance of a designed system. In this thesis, achievable rates for given average error probabilities are considered for finite blocklength systems. Although classical bounds can be used to upper bound the error probability, these bounds require the optimization of auxiliary variabl...
