Zorunlu Göç Ve Dayanıklılık Planlaması: Türkiye’nin Suriye Zorunlu Göçü Deneyimi
Altay Kaya, Deniz (Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture, 2021-12-01)
Forced population movements in the Ottoman Empire and the Early Turkish Republic: An attempt at reassessment through demographic engineering
Şeker, Nesim (2013-07-01)
This article uses the concept of “demographic engineering” for the purpose of analyzing forced migration in the Ottoman Empire and early Turkish Republic. It defines demographic engineering in a wide sense, as ‘deliberate state intervention in population figures’ for political, ideological, strategic and economic reasons. It argues that reconsidering the issue of forced migration in the Ottoman Empire and the early Turkish Republic as a case of demographic engineering provides us with an analytical tool ena...
Excessive settlements and failure of two embankments caused by degradation of soft rockfill
Erol, O; Ozkeskin, A (2001-08-31)
The construction of two 40m high embankments on Izmir-Cesme Motorway was completed in 1992. 20m high-reinforced earth walls supported the downstream slopes of the embankments. Highly weathered clayey schists excavated from adjacent cuts were used in the construction of both the embankments and reinforced earth walls. Continuous vertical deformations were observed on the embankments that reached to 70cm in 1998. Lateral displacements at the crest of walls were in excess of 60cm. These magnitudes of deformati...
Forced Vibration Testing and Seismic Fragility Assessment of Instrumented Structures (FORAGAINST)
Çelik, Ozan Cem(2016-2-07)
The objectives of this proposed research are to perform forced vibration tests on the following reinforced concrete structures, which are permanently instrumented for recording their dynamic responses in the case of future earthquakes in Turkey: a four-story dormitory building in Bolu, a four-story office building in Istanbul, a five-story hospital building in Antakya, a three-story school building in Antakya, and a four-story university building in Izmir, and to derive seismic fragilities for these structu...
Selective Demolition Of Redundant And Earthquake Damaged Buildings In Turkey
Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2012-01-01)
When a building reaches the end of its useful life or suffers severe damage during a disaster, it has to be demolished. However, not much is known about how the demolition work proceeds, or how is it regulated in Turkey; what machinery, tools and techniques are used; what material is salvaged and what dumped as waste; and how it is disposed off. Answers to these questions were sought through research conducted in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, as well as in earthquake affected areas in Turkey. Safety was an is...
