This paper proposes a set of metamodel extensions to UML for HLA federation design to support a more formalized and standardized description of the federation and federate design and documentation. In most cases a combination of this proposed profile and predefined standard UML model elements will be an effective way to design and document an HLA based simulation.

A systematic approach to the integration of overlapping partitions in service-oriented data grids
Sunercan, H. Kevser; Alpdemir, M. Nedim; Çiçekli, Fehime Nihan (Elsevier BV, 2011-06-01)
This paper aims to provide a service-oriented data integration solution over data Grids for cases where distributed data sources are partitioned with overlapping sections of various proportions. This is an interesting variation which combines both replicated and partitioned data within the same data management framework. Thus, the data management infrastructure has to deal with specific challenges regarding the identification, access and aggregation of partitioned data with varying proportions of overlappin...
An assessment of the architectural representation process within the computational design environment
Uçar, Başak; Mennan, Zeynep; Department of Architecture (2006)
With the introduction of a computational design environment, architectural design and representation processes witness a radical transition from the analog to the digital medium, that may be asserted to initiate a paradigm shift affecting both. In this new design environment, extending the instrumentality of computer-aided processes to the generative use of computational tools and procedures, architectural design and representation processes are subject to mutual alterations, challenged with computational d...
An inspection approach for conceptual models in notations derived from UML: A case study
Tanrioever, Oezeguer; Bilgen, Semih (2007-11-09)
This paper presents an overview of a proposed framework for improving the quality of conceptual models developed in notations derived from UML. To this aim, wellness properties of a UML model are described shortly. Through a case study, we show that an ad hoc inspection process in accordance with this framework can be defined and performed depending on the conceptual modeling notation and typical real models. This study showed us that the application of the defined inspection process, which adopts concepts ...
New design methods for polyhedral linkages
Kiper, Gökhan; Söylemez, Eres; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2006)
This thesis analyses the existing types of polyhedral linkages and presents new linkage types for resizing polyhedral shapes. First, the transformation characteristics, most specifically, magnification performances of existing polyhedral linkages are given. Then, methods for synthesizing single degree-of-freedom planar polygonal linkages are described. The polygonal linkages synthesized are used as faces of polyhedral linkages. Next, the derivation of some of the existing linkages using the method given is ...
Representations of Performative Architecture in Design Synthesis
Ataman, Cem; Gürsel Dino, İpek (2019-04-11)
The design process covers the entire sequence of design activities and includes individual loops of briefing, analysis and synthesis within evaluation and decision making. The development of computer tools that support design synthesis are especially significant for connecting different study fields, which is essential in performative building design. Computational design synthesis includes four major activities as Cagan (2005) states, which are representation, generation, evaluation and guidance in perform...
