Effects of stopper rod movement on mold fluid flow at Arcelormittal Dofasco's No. 1 Continuous Caster
Lui, Rui; Sengupta, Joydeep; Crosbie, Donald; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin; Thomas, Brian (null; 2011-05-05)
Effects of stopper rod movement on transient flow phenomena in the mold and formation of sliver defects are investigated via plant measurements and numerical simulations. First, sliver locations are correlated with stopper rod position and level fluctuation histories in the mold by analyzing images of slivers and process data recorded at ArcelorMittal Dofasco's No.1 Continuous Caster. Then, 3D transient CFD models are developed, validated with plant measurements, and applied to simulate transient flow, part...
EFFECTS of ROTATION of MATERIAL AXES ON FREE FLEXURAL VIBRATIONS of CENTRALLY BONDED SYMMETRIC DOUBLE DOUBLER JOINT in COMPOSITE MINDLIN PLATES or PANELS
Yuceoglu, U.; Guvendik, O. (2011-11-17)
The present study investigates the serious effects of rotation of material axes on the free dynamic response of composite plates or panels with "Bonded Double Doubler Mint Systems". The "Plate Adherends" and the "Upper and Lower Doubler Plates" are connected through the relatively very thin adhesive layers. The "Bonded Double Doubler Joint System" is considered in taans of the "System. 1" and the "System.2". In the "System. 1", the material directions of "Plate Adherends" are rotated 90(0) (about z-axis) wh...

Effects of reactor geometry on dissociating CO2 and electrode degradation in a MHCD plasma reactor
Taylan, Onur; Pinero, Daniel; Berberoğlu, Halil (2018-08-01)
This paper reports an experimental study on the effects of reactor geometry for dissociating carbon dioxide using a microhollow cathode discharge (MHCD) reactor, and the associated electrode degradation. A MHCD reactor consists of two hollow metal electrodes that are separated by dielectric material. The geometric reactor parameters studied were the dielectric material thickness and the diameter of the reactor hole. Dielectric thicknesses of 150, 300 and 450 mu m and discharge hole diameters of 200, 400 and...
Effects of heat input on metallurgical behavior in HAZ of multi-pass and multi-layer welded IN-939 superalloy
Mashhuriazar, Amirhossein; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Sajuri, Zainuddin; Omidvar, Hamid (2021-11-01)
The hot components of a gas turbine are susceptible to damage in the high-temperature environment of turbine engine operation. Given that these components are relatively costly to manufacture, they are often repaired than replaced when damaged. Fusion welding is an economical method for repairing the damaged components of a gas turbine. This research examines the roles of heat input, pass number and layer number on the intergranular liquation cracking of the Inconel-939 (IN-939) precipitate nickel base supe...
