EVALUATION OF NUSSELT NUMBER FOR A FLOW IN A MICROTUBE USING SECOND-ORDER SLIP MODEL
Cetin, Barbaros; Bayer, Özgür (National Library of Serbia, 2011-01-01)
In this paper. the fully-developed temperature profile and corresponding Nusselt value is determined analytically for a gaseous flow in a microtube with a thermal boundary condition of constant wall heat flux. The flow assumed to be laminar, and hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed. The fluid is assumed to be constant property and incompressible. The effect of rarefaction, viscous dissipation and axial conduction, which are important at the microscale, are included in the analysis. Second-order sl...
Evaluation of mechanical properties of Bi12SiO20 sillenite using first principles and nanoindentation
Isik, M.; Sürücü, Gökhan; Gencer, A.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2021-08-01)
The mechanical and anisotropic elastic properties of Bi12SiO20 (BSO) were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and nanoindentation. The calculated and experimentally observed XRD patterns of the compound were reported and the crystal structure of the BSO was determined to be cubic with the lattice constant of a = 1.025 nm. The second-order elastic constants and related polycrystalline elastic moduli (e.g. shear modulus, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, linear compressibility and ...
Evaluation of Seismic Response Factors for Eccentrically Braced Frames Using FEMA P695 Methodology
KUŞYILMAZ, Ahmet; Topkaya, Cem (SAGE Publications, 2016-02-01)
This paper reports details of a numerical study undertaken to evaluate seismic response factors for steel eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) using the FEMA P695 methodology. Six archetypes were designed by making use of the current U.S. specifications, and their behavior was assessed by making use of nonsimulated collapse models. Results indicate that the current values of response factors result in designs with higher collapse probabilities than expected. Two modifications were developed to bring the colla...
Evaluation of effectiveness of different bioactive agents for treatment of osteoarthritis with in vitro model under dynamic mechanical stimulation
Kavas, Ayşegül; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Department of Engineering Sciences (2007)
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease characterized by the progressive degradation of articular cartilage. Current strategies for the disease are mainly towards relieving symptoms. This study was aimed to investigate the therapeutic potentials of Bone Morphogenetic Protein-9 (BMP-9), Raloxifene (Ral) and Pluronic F-68 (PLF-68) with a three-dimensional in vitro OA model. Articular chondrocytes isolated from rats were cultured in growth media and embedded in agarose to obtain agarose-chondrocyte discs. Dynamic hyd...
Evaluation of body composition using three different methods compared to dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry
Duz, Serkan; Koçak, Mehmet Settar; Korkusuz, Feza (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this study, we compared the simple methods of skinfolds, ultrasound, and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) against the standard of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in the assessment of body fat in normoactive Turkish male and female university students. We wished to develop new regression equations to more accurately predict percent body fat from skinfolds and ultrasound for this group of individuals. One hundred and four male (age 22.22.5 years; height 1.770.06 m; mass 74.910.4 kg) and one h...
