Tracing Successful Online Teaching in Higher Education: Voices of Exemplary Online Teachers
Baran, Evrim; Correia, Ana-Paula; Thompson, Ann D. (2013-03-01)
Background: Although advances in distance learning have shown signs of a reconfiguration of the teacher's role in online environments, a large number of online teaching practices still do not show many signs of this shift. Given the need for a change in pedagogies, investigating how exemplary teachers transfer their thinking, pedagogical knowledge, and beliefs to successful online teaching is critical to understanding new online learning and teaching practices. The research on online teacher roles and pract...
Continual Learning for Affective Robotics: Why, What and How?
Churamani, Nikhil; Kalkan, Sinan; Gunes, Hatice (2020-01-01)
Creating and sustaining closed-loop dynamic and social interactions with humans require robots to continually adapt towards their users' behaviours, their affective states and moods while keeping them engaged in the task they are performing. Analysing, understanding and appropriately responding to human nonverbal behaviour and affective states are the central objectives of affective robotics research. Conventional machine learning approaches do not scale well to the dynamic nature of such real-world interac...
Beforehand obtaining a safety operation condition by using daily load curves in transient stability and graphical software for transient stability applications
Öztop, Celal; Ertaş, Arif; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
In this thesis, relationship between two most important transient stability indices, critical clearing time and generator rotor angle is examined for one machine-infinite bus system and then extended to the multimachine case and is observed to be linear. By using the linear relationship between critical clearing time and generator rotor angle and utilizing the daily load curve, a new preventive method is proposed. The aim of this method is to make all critical clearing times longer than the relay and circui...
Gray's value-puralism: a critical analysis
Parmaksız, Abdullah Umut; Üstüner, Fahriye ; Department of Psychology (2007)
In this study, John Gray’s theory of value-pluralism is critically analyzed. Gray’s modus vivendi, based on Isaiah Berlin’s criticism of monism, is a theory that aims to create the conditions in which peace and diversity in late-modern societies can be protected. Gray argues that a legally pluralistic system where collectives have autonomy is more serving to peace than its liberal alternatives. This study argues that Gray fails to achieve its goal of promoting diversity. This is due to the fact that Gray’s ...
Leisure constraints and negotiation strategies in tourism recreation: a comperative research with different cultures
Tek, Tolga; Koçak, Mehmet Settar; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2018)
The main problem of this study was to describe perceived constraints encountered and negotiation strategies utilized by foreign tourists in a recreational sport setting in different regions of Turkey. Moreover, discreteness in negotiation was examined according to gender, participation, the level and type of perceived constraint encountered. A questionnaire was conducted to a sample of randomly selected foreign tourists in different regions from Turkey. The modification study of Leisure Constraints Question...
