Abundance and biomass of picoplanktonic Synechococcus (Cyanobacteria) in a coastal ecosystem of the northeastern Mediterranean, the Bay of Iskenderun
POLAT, SEVİM; Uysal, Zahit (2009-01-01)
Changes in abundance and biomass of Synechococcus were studied during five cruises carried out between November 2004 and September 2005 in the Iskenderun Bay, northeastern Mediterranean. In addition, spatial and temporal variations in physico-chemical factors and Chl a were measured. Abundance ranged from 0.2 x 10(4) to 23.09 x 10(4) cells ml(-1), whereas the biomass ranged from 0.19 (1) to 23.01 mu gC l(-1) in the bay. Synechococcus was found most numerous during September 2005 in the shallower part of the...
Distribution and abundance of moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) and its zooplankton food in the Black Sea
Mutlu, E (2001-02-01)
The distribution of moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita Linnaeus, 1758) in the Black Sea was determined from plankton samples collected above the anoxic zone (maximum depth 200 m) in the summer, winter and spring during 1991-1995. Distribution was patchy. Average biomass ranged from 98 to 380 g m(-2), and abundance varied from 2 to 14 individuals m(-2). Biomass and abundance peaked in late spring and summer. The distribution was correlated with hydrographic features in the Black Sea, with higher concentrations o...
Distribution of phytoplankton (>55um) along the Turkish coasts and at the north-western shelf area of the Black Sea

Abundance and elemental composition of particulate matter tn the upper layer of northeastern Mediterranean
Ediger, D; Tugrul, S; Polat, CS; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Salihoglu, I (1998-03-27)
Suspended particulate (POC: PON, PP) profiles obtained in 1991-1994 indicate the existence of characteristic subsurface maxima near the base of the euphotic zone in the cyclonic Rhodes gyre and its peripherial waters in the Northeastern Mediterranean. Interestingly the N:P of the bulk seston nas reasonable during stratification seasons when the surface water was relatively: poor in phosphate: but the ratio was unexpectedly low (N:P=6-12) in the late winter of 1992 when the surface layer of Rhodes gyre was o...
