Whey protein-based gel as a model material for studying initial cleaning mechanisms of milk fouling
XİN, H; Chen, XD; Özkan, Necati (2002-09-01)
The dissolution kinetics and mechanical properties of whey protein concentrate (WPC) gels were Investigated as part of a general study on cleaning mechanisms of milk fouling. The dissolution results showed that the WPC gel is a suitable model material to simulate milk fouling and the dissolution process is a major factor controlling the cleaning process. The hardness, elastic modulus, and fracture load of the WPC gels decreased significantly when they were treated with alkaline solution, indicating that cer...
Whey protein/alginate beads as carriers of a bioactive component
Wichchukit, S.; Öztop, Halil Mecit; McCarthy, M.J.; McCarthy, K.L. (Elsevier BV, 2013-8)
Bioactive components encapsulated in gel particles offer a means to deliver these components in a time release fashion to improve health through daily diet. The objective of this work was to evaluate the physical/mechanical properties of a release system consisting of whey protein/alginate gel beads in a model beverage. Riboflavin, vitamin B-2, was incorporated in the gel beads as a model bioactive compound. Gel beads were formed both with and without riboflavin and then added to a xanthan/sucrose suspendin...
Whirl speeds and unbalance response of multibearing rotors using finite-elements
Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Özkan, Z. Levent (1984-01-01)
This paper presents dynamic modeling of rotor bearing systems with rigid disks, distributed parameter finite rotor elements and flexible, discrete multibearings. The previous works have included the effects of rotary inertia, gyroscopic moment, axial load, internal viscous and hysteretic damping and transverse shear deformations, but have not considered them all in the same model. A computer program is developed in this work to calculate the forward and backward whirl speeds, the corresponding mode shapes, ...

Methanol feeding strategy design enhances recombinant human growth hormone production by Pichia pastoris
Gunes, Hande; Boy, Erdem; Ata, Ozge; Zerze, Gul H.; Çalık, Pınar; Ozdamar, Tuncer H. (2016-03-01)
BACKGROUND: The effects of designed methanol and co-substrate feeding strategies on fed-batch recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) production by Pichia pastoris hGH-Mut(+) were investigated.
