A SEM study of creep and thermal fatigue failure in naphtha cracking furnace tubes made of 800H alloy

A Molecular Dynamics Study on the Local Structure of Al90Sm10 Marginal Metallic Glass and Liquid
Sarıtürk, Doğuhan; Kalay, Yunus Eren (2023-01-01)
The liquid and the amorphous Al90Sm10 marginal metallic glassy alloy are investigated using Molecular Dynamics. The Al90Sm10 system consisting of 32,000 atoms is simulated under the constant number of atoms, pressure, and temperature (NPT) ensemble where the temperature and pressure are controlled via Nose–Hoover thermostat and barostat, respectively. The corresponding liquid model is initially held at 2300 K; then, the liquid is continuously cooled down to 300 K with a constant cooling rate of 1010 Ks−1, d...
A numerical study on local buckling and energy dissipation of CHS seismic bracing
Kusyilmaz, Ahmet; Topkaya, Cem (Elsevier BV, 2011-08-01)
Seismic provisions for steel buildings present limiting width-thickness and slenderness ratios for bracing members, most of which were established based on experimental observations. A finite element study has been undertaken to evaluate these limits for pin-ended circular hollow section (CHS) steel braces. Uncertainties in modeling and quantification arise in the simulation of cyclic brace buckling. A finite element modeling procedure was developed and calibrated using existing experimental data. Sensitivi...
A Parametric study on the influence of semi-rigid connection nonlinearity on steel special moment frames
Metin, Tolga; Sarıtaş, Afşin; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
In practice, steel frames are analyzed and designed by assuming all beam to column connections as either rigid or simple. In real life, there are no such idealizations as rigid or simple and all connections would actually belong to a group of connections named as semi rigid connections. Various difficulties exist in modeling an accurate non-linear behavior of a steel structure, where one of these challenges is the modeling of semi-rigid behavior of connections. A detailed finite element model would take int...
A density functional theory study of catalytic epoxidation of ethylene and propylene
Fellah, Mehmet Ferdi; Önal, Işık; Department of Chemical Engineering (2009)
The reactions which give the products ethylene oxide, vinyl alcohol, vinyl aldehyde and vinyl radical for ethylene oxidation and the reactions which give propylene oxide, propanal, acetone and pi-allyl radical for propylene oxidation were investigated by using Density Functional Theory (DFT) method with B3LYP/LanL2DZ and 6-31g(d,p) basis sets in Gaussian’03 software. Silver and silver oxide were used as catalyst surface cluster models. Surface comparison was made for silver (111), (110) and (100) surfaces. ...
