This paper examines the student and school factors (especially geographic location) on student achievement in the Cisco Networking Academy, a technology enhanced learning environment. The instructional model in the Cisco Networking Academy combines face-to-face learning with online curriculum and instructional materials that are distributed over the Internet. Due to socioeconomic differences, student achievement differences between urban and suburban regions are a major issue in U.S. schools. We believe that using a technology enhanced learning environment may close this achievement gap. After accounting for ability and motivation factors, this study, conducted with 4670 high school students in 386 high schools, found that students located in different

An interdisciplinary approach in understanding internet as a practice : a case study of internet cafes in a small town
Uzuner, Demet; Tarhan, Belkız; Department of Science and Technology Policy Studies (2005)
This study aims at understanding how Internet being a particular technology, integrates into daily practices in a small town. By doing this, it follows a theoretically informed ethnography based research concluding that the relationship between technology and society cannot be grasped by analysing both as separate entities. Hence, it attempts to develop a theoretical and methodological framework that is constantly aware of problems raised by dualistic assumptions analysing technology-society or human-nonhum...

Sancar, Raziye; Atal Demirbacak, Deniz; Kuşcu, Ebru; Barutçu Yıldırım, Kadriye Funda (2023-1-01)
The current study examines whether an online cyber identity course, which was based on the community of inquiry model, significantly affected the self-efficacy perception of school counselor candidates (SCC) in terms of technology integration. Forty-four SCC, selected using the criterion sampling method, participated in a mixed-method design study by taking a one-week online cyber identity course. The online version of the Computer Technology Integration Survey (CTIS) was used as a pre and post-test measure...
Using mobile communication tools in web based instruction
Avenoğlu, Bilgin; Özden, M. Yaşar; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2005)
This thesis investigates the perceptions of students about using mobile communication tools in web-based instruction. A mobile learning portal that can be used by different mobile devices was designed for this purpose. This portal included a mobile discussion forum and a course information system. Sixty undergraduate and five graduate students from METU/CEIT department used this portal as a supportive learning activity in three different courses throughout two-three, and four-week periods. The discussion su...
