Clientelism is a selective, particularistic, and hierarchical mutual support system in whichpoliticians and political parties offer material favors (such as jobs and goods) to electors inexchange for political support (usually in the form of votes). It is selective and particularisticbecause it is targeted toward an exclusive group of voters based on their political preferences, thereby discriminating against the remainder of the society. This entry provides a brief overview of clientelism by highlighting why we study clientelism and the conceptualization, determinants, and varieties of clientelism and concludes with a brief discussion of the political effects of clientelism.

In this study, we intend to present an intra-critical examination of these three models of democratic self-defense, identifi...

Therefore, political fair representation is an important issue in representation. This thesis examines the degree of political fair representation in Ankara Metropolitan Municipal Council by an...

Özdemir, Fatih; Özkan, Türker; Department of Psychology (2018)
The current research aimed to rationalize the relations of opposition political parties' supporters with local in-group (supporters of the supported political party), extended in-group (T.C citizens) and three local out-groups (supporters of ruling party and other two opposition parties) in both individual and group levels using identity and deprivation theories, and answer the question of why people indicate extreme self-sacrificing behaviors for the sake of in-group members. To be more precise, this study...
