Effect of structural isomerism and polymer end group on the pH-stability of hydrogen-bonded multilayers
Erel Göktepe, İrem; Demirel, A. Levent (2011-09-15)
Association of tannic acid (TA) with structurally isomeric poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(2-isopropyl-2-oxazoline) (PIPOX) has been examined at surfaces to understand the effect of different molecular arrangements in a polymer repeating unit of structural isomers on the construction and pH-stability of hydrogen-bonded multilayers. Films were fabricated using layer-by-layer (LbL) technique through hydrogen-bonding interactions primarily between carbonyl groups of neutral polymers and hydroxyl ...
Effect of hydrogen ion-exchange capacity on activity of resin catalysts in tert-amyl-ethyl-ether synthesis
Boz, N; Doğu, Timur; Murtezaoglu, K; Dogu, G (Elsevier BV, 2004-08-10)
Activities of ion-exchange resin catalysts, having different hydrogen exchange capacities ranging between 5.1 and 1.3 meq H+/g, on the etherification reactions of 2M1B (2-methyl-1-butene) and 2M2B (2-methyl-2-butene) with ethanol were experimentally tested in a fixed bed reactor. These catalysts were prepared by the heat treatment of Amberlyst-15 catalysts at 220 degreesC at different durations of time and also by the synthesis of sulfonated styrene divinyl benzene cross-linked resins. Activity of these cat...
Effect of pre-acclimation of granular activated carbon on microbial electrolysis cell startup and performance
LaBarge, Nicole; Yılmazel Tokel, Yasemin Dilşad; Hong, Pei-Ying; Logan, Bruce E. (2017-02-01)
Microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) can generate methane by fixing carbon dioxide without using expensive catalysts, but the impact of acclimation procedures on subsequent performance has not been investigated. Granular activated carbon (GAC) was used to pre-enrich electrotrophic methanogenic communities, as GAC has been shown to stimulate direct transfer of electrons between different microbial species. MEC startup" times using pre-acclimated GAC were improved compared to controls (without pre-acclimation ...
Effect of calcination/reduction temperature of Ni impregnated CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts on hydrogen yield and coke minimization in low temperature reforming of ethanol
ARSLAN KELAM, ARZU; Doğu, Timur (2016-10-15)
CeO2-ZrO2 was proven to be a quite effective catalyst support for steam reforming of ethanol (SRE). In this study, properties of Ni impregnated mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts of different compositions were optimized by changing the calcination/reduction temperature. Increase of calcination/reduction temperature from 400 degrees C to 650 degrees C caused significant decrease in surface area and redox ability of the catalysts, yielding higher coke formation and lower hydrogen yields. Results proved that, very...
