Developing optimum operation strategies for wind-hydro hybrid systems
Ercan, Eray; Kentel Erdoğan, Elçin; Department of Civil Engineering (2020)
In today's world, energy is one of the most important drivers for the continuation of civilization. Until recent years, the energy demands of the countries have been mainly supplied by fossil fuels. However, the negative effects of using fossil fuels in energy generation shifted the focus to renewable energy resources. In addition to this, the popularity of renewable energy resources increased as their costs decreased and efficiencies increased. Therefore, the integration of renewable energy systems to nati...
Developing a trilayer processing technique for superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin films by using Ge ion implantation
Avci, I; Tepe, M; Oktem, B; Serincan, U; Turan, Raşit; Abukay, D (IOP Publishing, 2005-04-01)
For making trilayer superconducting devices based on YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) thin film processing, we developed a new technique by employing Ge ion implantation. A YBCO thin film of 150 nm thickness having high c-axis orientation and a transition temperature, T, of 90 K was implanted with 80 keV, 1 x 10(16) Ge ions cm(-2) at room temperature. By the result of TRIM calculation, Ge ions were found to penetrate into the YBCO thin film approximately 60 nm below the surface of the film, thus leaving the lower par...
Development of a fate and transport model for biodegradation of PBDE congeners in sediments
Karakas, Filiz; Aksoy, Ayşegül; İmamoğlu, İpek (Elsevier BV, 2020-11-01)
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a family where each congener possesses different physicochemical properties, persistence and/or toxicity. Biodegradation can selectively change the abundance of congeners. These warrant modeling of individual congeners by considering biodegradation pathways together with fate and transport (F&T) mechanisms. Accordingly, this study aims to develop a F&T model (Fate and Transport model for Hydrophobic Pollutants - FTHP) that integrates congener specific biodegradatio...
Developing quantitative experimental model systems to study drug resistance
Danisik, Nurseda; Baygin, Rana Can; Temena, Mehmet Arda; Acar, Ahmet (2021-10-05)
It is widely known that secondary resistance inevitably leads to treatment failure through Darwinian evolution. Therefore, quantifying the clonal evolution using experimental model systems can hold a great promise in designing evolutionarily informed therapies, and thus, in predicting drug response. In this talk, I present our recently developed strategy that contributed to the understanding of collateral drug sensitivity with its direct link to clonal evolution to overcome the drug resistance in non-small ...
Developing subject specific frequency lowering algorithms with simulated hearing loss for the enhancement of sensorineural hearing loss
Arıöz, Umut; Günel Kılıç, Banu; Department of Health Informatics (2012)
The hearing and understanding problems of the people with high frequency hearing loss are covered within the scope of this thesis. For overcoming these problems, two main studies, developing hearing loss simulation (HLS) and applying new frequency lowering methods (FLMs) were carried out. HLS was developed with the suprathreshold effects and new FLMs were applied with different combinations of the FLMs. For evaluating the studies, modified rhyme test (MRT) and speech intelligibility index (SII) were used as...
