EXPLICIT EXPRESSION FOR GROWTH-RATES IN FREE-ELECTRON LASERS WITH HELICAL AND AXIAL MAGNETIC-FIELDS
DEMOKAN, O; KABAK, Y (1992-10-01)
The dispersion relations of transverse and longitudinal modes in a free-electron laser with helical and axial magnetic fields are derived exactly for the one-dimensional case. The modes with positive and negative helicity are distinguished clearly. An analytically solvable expression for the growth rate of the modes, in resonance with the beam, is obtained. The dependence of the growth rate on system parameters is studied for broad ranges of values and comments on optimization are made.
Ray anlaysis of electromagnetic scattering from semi-infinite array of dipoles in free space
Polat, Özgür Murat; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
Electromagnetic wave scattering from a semi-infinite array of dipoles in free space is described by using asymptotic high frequency methods. An electric field integral expression is obtained and solved with asymptotic high frequency methods. An asymptotic field expression is obtained for a finite × infinite array of dipoles in free space. The analytical closed form expression for the array guided surface wave launching coefficient is obtained via a combination of an asymptotic high frequency analysis of a r...
Fire tests of cut and cover tunnel roof segments at positive moment region
Arsava, Kemal Sarp; Arsava, Kemal Sarp; Department of Civil Engineering (2011)
The most important issue during a tunnel fire is safety of human life. The tunnel fire structural research and investigations have gained more importance in the last decade but studies show variable results depending on the concrete quality and tunnel design fire. For instance, a certain type of concrete with high moisture content can tend to explode in the first 10-15 minutes of fire with rapid increase of heat release rate. A sudden collapse of the tunnel roof during the fire is unacceptable. Especially i...
