Design rules for suspending concentrated mixtures of solids in stirred tanks
Ayrancı Tansık, İnci (2011-10-01)
This study examines complete off-bottom suspension conditions for slurries containing mixtures of solids at a wide range of concentrations. Binary combinations of five different particles; bronze, two sizes of glass beads, ion exchange resin, and nickel were tested with two impellers: the Lightnin A310 and the down pumping 45 degrees PBT. The effect of particle size ratio and density ratio of the two solid phases on N(js) was investigated. Solids loadings were varied from 3 to 56 wt% (weight percent) with w...
Design criteria for transparent single-wall carbon nanotube thin-film transistors
Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Kanwal, A; Du Pasquier, A; Chhowalla, M (2006-04-01)
A study based on two-dimensional percolation theory yielding quantitative parameters for optimum connectivity of transparent single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) thin films is reported. Optimum SWNT concentration in the filtrated solution was found to be 0.1 mg/L with a volume of 30 mL. Such parameters lead to SWNT fractions in the films of approximately Phi = 1.8 x 10(-3), much below the metallic percolation threshold, which is found to be similar to Phi(c) = 5.5 x 10(-3). Therefore, the performance of trans...
Design Principles for the Acceptor Units in Donor-Acceptor Conjugated Polymers
Haciefendioglu, Tugba; Yıldırım, Erol (2022-10-01)
More than 50 different acceptor units from the experimental literature have been modeled, analyzed, and compared by using the computationally extracted data from the density functional theory (DFT) perspective for tetramer structures in the form of (D-B-A-B)4 (D, donor; A, acceptor; B, bridge) with fixed donor and bridge units. Comparison of dihedral angle between acceptor, donor, and bridge units, bond order, and hyperpolarizability reveals that these three structural properties have a dominant effect on t...
Design Optimization of Variable Stiffness Composite Laminates Using Surrogate Models for Compliance and Buckling Load
İnci, Hasan; Kayran, Altan (2017-09-22)
Usage of composite materials in aerospace industry has never been so wide in our world. Starting from the development of composites, the analyses were only done for straight fiber composites. With the improved manufacturing capabilities, designers have the ability to design more complex shapes for composites, which allows more efficient structures. In the past two decades, variable stiffness (VS) composite laminates are introduced to the literature. Within these two decades, researchers working on VS concep...
