Enrichment of metals in the surface sediments of Sapanca Lake
Bakan, G; Balkas, TI (Wiley, 1999-01-01)
A comprehensive lake sediment study was performed on the Sapanca Lake of Turkey in which certain metal analyses were conducted using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. The purpose of the study was to find the enrichment of metals in the surface sediments of Sapanca Lake. A method, namely, the index of geoaccumulation, was used to define the degree of anthropogenic pollution in the Sapanca Lake basin. Results of the geoaccumulation index indicate that only enrichments of trace metals, c...
Accumulation of Some Heavy Metals Seasonally in Hysterotylacium aduncum (Nematoda) and Its Host Red Sea Bream, Pagellus erythrinus (Sparidae) from Gulf of Iskenderun (North-Eastern Mediterranean)
DURAL, MELTEM; Genc, Ercument; Yemenicioglu, Semal; SANGÜN, MUSTAFA KEMAL (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2010-01-01)
The Red Sea Bream's nematode and Sparus aurata, sampled from the Iskenderun Bay, North-eastern Mediterranean in March 2008 were analysed by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES) for their some heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mg, Pb and Zn) levels. The metal concentrations of the parasites were compared to different organs (liver, muscle, swimbladder, intestine and skin) of the fish hosts. The highest Cd (0.303 mg/kgg ww) concentrations were found in the muscle, highest Cr (4...

Occurrence of fungi and their mycotoxins in individual Turkish dried figs
Senyuva, H. Z.; Gilbert, J.; Samson, R. A.; Özcan Kabasakal, Süreyya; Ozturkoglu, S.; Onal, D. (Wageningen Academic Publishers, 2008-02-01)
Fifty individual figs which had been rejected as potentially contaminated by sorting under UV light were separately analysed to identify the presence of fungi and their mycotoxins. Aflatoxin B-1 was found in 49 samples with levels ranging from 0.7 to 222 ng g(-1), with 40 individual figs containing more than 2 ng g(-1), indicating the efficacy of the UV screening process in identifying contaminated fruit. Ochratoxin A (OTA) was found in 32 of the figs at levels from 0.4 to 1710 ng g(-1), with 50% of the sam...
