Radiation-hardness studies of high OH- content quartz fibres irradiated with 500 MeV electrons
Dumanoglu, I; Akchurin, N; Akgun, U; Ayan, S; Bruecken, P; Eskut, E; Fenyvesi, A; Topkasu, AK; Koca, N; Makonyi, K; Merlo, JP; Novak, D; Onel, Y; Onengut, G; Polatoz, A; Schmidt, I; Serin, M; Zeyrek, Mehmet Tevfik (2002-09-11)
We investigated the darkening of nine high OH- fibre types irradiated with 500 MeV electrons from the Linac Injector of LEP (LIL) at CERN. The transmission of Xe light was measured in situ in the 350-800 nm range. The induced attenuation at 450 nm is typically 1.52+/-0.15 dB/m for a 100 Mrad absorbed dose. Two-parameter fits for darkening and recovery are presented. After irradiation the tensile strength remains essentially unchanged. For Polymicro quartz core fibres the tensile strength is typically 4.6+/-...
Radiation Testing of Commercial Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Batteries for Small Satellite Applications
Muçogllava, Brunilda; Karim Hashmani, Raheem; Çakmakoğlu, Selman; Demirköz, Melahat Bilge (2022-11-01)
Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electrical components are becoming of interest for small satellite applications due to their accessibility, good performance, and low cost. We quantify the performance of Lithium Polymer (LiPo) COTS batteries under irradiation to assess their reliability. LiPo battery cells with LiCoO2 cathodes, nominal voltages of 3.7 V, and rated capacities of 6000 mAh are irradiated with a 30 MeV proton beam from the Middle East Technical University Defocusing Beamline, which delivers a ma...
Radiation impedance study of a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer by finite element analysis
Bayram, Barış (2015-08-01)
In this study, radiation impedance of a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer composed of square-shaped membranes arranged in m x m configuration (m = 1 - 5) is investigated using finite element analysis (FEA) of a commercially available software package (ANSYS). Radiation impedance is calculated for immersed membranes operating in conventional and collapse modes. Individual membrane response within the multi-membrane configuration is analyzed, and excited modes and their effects on radiation imped...
