Detection of differentially expressed genes upon compatible and incompatible inoculation of wheat with yellow rust using suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH)
Çelik, İlay; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Department of Biotechnology (2007)
Yellow rust disease is one of the most important problems in wheat production. It causes substantial yield losses throughout the world. There are resistant and susceptible wheat varieties to various yellow rust pathotypes. In this thesis genes that are induced in wheat, in virulence and avirulence conditions upon yellow rust inoculations were investigated. Consequently, it was aimed to identify genes that may be playing critical roles in the disease resistance mechanism. The strategy was to construct subtra...
Detection of porcine DNA in gelatine and gelatine-containing processed food products-Halal/Kosher authentication
Demirhan, Yasemin; Ulca, Pelin; Senyuva, Hamide Z. (2012-03-01)
A commercially available real-time PCR, based on a multi-copy target cytochrome b (cyt b) using porcine specific primers, has been validated for the Halal/Kosher authentication of gelatine. Extraction and purification of DNA from gelatine were successfully achieved using the Surefood (R) PREP Animal system, and real-time PCR was carried out using SureFood (R) Animal ID Pork Sens kit. The minimum level of adulteration that could be detected was 1.0% w/w for marshmallows and gum drops. A small survey was unde...
Detection of helminth eggs and protozoan cysts in wastewaters
Davutluoğlu, Ayten; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi; Department of Environmental Engineering (2005)
The withdrawal of water sources concluded the reuse of treated wastewaters, especially for non-potable purposes. Agricultural use of the reclaimed wastewaters is one of the reuse options. However health considerations of the reuse of reclaimed wastewaters for public related purposes are underestimated, since wastewaters contain a variety of microbial pathogens, which may be transmitted to workers and consumers through the crops irrigated. Of these, parasitic eggs have a special place, as they are capable of...
Detection of rare cell types and patient prognosis in liver cancer
Şengül Babal, Simge; Yıldız, Cemal; Pır, Pınar (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Enformatik Enstitüsü; 2022-10)
Cancer is a disease that emerges as a result of complex aberrant processes involving cells that grow and divide uncontrollably and has many patient-specific characteristics. Mutations in genes or changes in the expression of transcripts produce cellular heterogeneity, cancer cells, and tumors, and finally invade other healthy tissues [1]. Primary liver cancer is the second most lethal malignancy worldwide and comprises many molecularly unique subtypes and a highly diverse microenvironment [2]. Among this di...
Detection of BCR/ABL gene rearrangement and the elimination of rearranged clone in chronic myelocytic leukemia patients
Eren, E; Aytac, U; Tetik, E; Akman, O; Kansu, E; Gündüz, Ufuk (2000-02-01)
Cytogenetic and molecular studies were performed on 20 interferon-alpha receiving Turkish chronic myelocytic leukemia patients. Four different restriction endonucleases and bcr-G probe were used for southern blot analysis to detect rearrangements of the bcr gene. The RT-PCR method was also applied to detect chimeric bcr/abl mRNA. Seventeen patients showed a chromosomal break within the 5.8 kb M-bcr region by southern blot analysis while three cases out of 20 have not shown any rearrangement. These three cas...
