Detection of physically interacting proteins with the CC and NB-ARC domains of a putative yellow rust resistance protein, Yr10, in wheat
Yildirim-Ersoy, Figen; Ridout, Christopher J.; Akkaya, Mahinur (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-08-01)
Gene-for-gene (GFG) resistance is a potent defense mechanism in plants, that is mediated by resistance (R) proteins. In GFG resistance, pathogen effector or avirulence (Avr) proteins are recognised by R-proteins which initiate a series of signal transduction events that lead to hypersensitive cell death. In cereals, many R-proteins are comprised of an N-terminal coiled-coiled (CC) domain, a Nucleotide Binding (NB) domain and a Leucine Rich Repeats (LRR) region associated with effector recognition. NB-LRR im...

Detection of differentially expressed genes upon compatible and incompatible inoculation of wheat with yellow rust using suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH)
Çelik, İlay; Akkaya, Mahinur S.; Department of Biotechnology (2007)
Yellow rust disease is one of the most important problems in wheat production. It causes substantial yield losses throughout the world. There are resistant and susceptible wheat varieties to various yellow rust pathotypes. In this thesis genes that are induced in wheat, in virulence and avirulence conditions upon yellow rust inoculations were investigated. Consequently, it was aimed to identify genes that may be playing critical roles in the disease resistance mechanism. The strategy was to construct subtra...
Detection of hypothalamic neuropeptite levels involved in appetite regulation in aripiprazole treatment /
Özdemir, Serhat; Yanık, Tülin; Department of Biotechnology (2014)
Disruption or malfunctioning of neurotransmitter pathways, especially serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways are closely related to psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. Antipsychotic medications are becoming widespread; however, in long term treatments, these drugs lead to considerable amount of weight gain as a side effect. Metformin, an antidiabetic drug, has previously been used to treat antipsychotic induced weight gain and aripiprazole has been defined as a neutral antipsychotic drug in terms of ...
