Computational analysis of high frequency fluid-structure interactions in constricted flow
Salman, HÜSEYİN ENES; Sert, Cüneyt; Yazıcıoğlu, Yiğit (2013-06-01)
Constricted flow in a thin cylindrical shell with an idealized blunt constriction is modeled using ADINA. Highly disturbed recirculation region is observed at the constriction exit where pressure fluctuations and consequential vessel wall vibrations display broadband spectral content over a range of several hundred Hz. Maximum dynamic pressure and vibration amplitudes are observed around the reattachment point and they gradually decrease along downstream of flow. Results obtained by numerical simulations ar...
Computational analysis of network activity and spatial reach of sharp wave-ripples
Canakci, Sadullah; Toy, Muhammed Faruk; Inci, Ahmet Fatih; Liu, Xin; Kuzum, Duygu (Public Library of Science (PLoS), 2017-9-15)
Network oscillations of different frequencies, durations and amplitudes are hypothesized to coordinate information processing and transfer across brain areas. Among these oscillations, hippocampal sharp wave-ripple complexes (SPW-Rs) are one of the most prominent. SPW-Rs occurring in the hippocampus are suggested to play essential roles in memory consolidation as well as information transfer to the neocortex. To-date, most of the knowledge about SPW-Rs comes from experimental studies averaging responses fro...
Computational analysis of hydrodynamics of shear-thinning viscoelastic fluids in a square lid-driven cavity flow
YAPICI, KERİM; Uludağ, Yusuf (2013-11-01)
Computational results for steady laminar flow of three different shear thinning fluids lid-driven square cavity are presented. The viscoelastic nature of the fluids is represented by linear and exponential Phan-Thien Tanner (PTT) and Giesekus constitutive models. Computations are based on finite volume technique incorporating non-uniform collocated grids. The stress terms in the constitutive equations are approximated by higher-order and bounded scheme of Convergent and Universally Bounded Interpolation Sch...
Computational study of subsonic flow over a delta canard-wing-body configuration
Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 1998-07-01)
Subsonic flowfields over a close-coupled, delta canard-wing-body configuration at angles of attack of 20, 24,2, and 30 deg are computed using the OVERFLOW Navier-Stokes solver Computed flowfields are presented in terms of particle traces, surface streamlines, and leeward-side surface pressure distributions for the canard-on and -off configurations. The interaction between the canard and the wing vortices, wing vortex breakdown, and the influence of the canard on vortex breakdown are identified, The comparis...
Computational analysis of a solar vortex
Mohiuddin, Abdullah; Uzgören, Eray; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2015-3)
This thesis investigates power generation opportunities by considering computational analysis of an experimental setup which is initially proposed to mimic dust devils in a controlled environment. The concept relies on buoyancy effect over a heated plate surrounded by vertical thin plates or vanes. Once the heated air starts rising, vertical vanes help surrounding air to flow inwards in a direction tangential to the vortex core to introduce swirl to the flow. Present study focuses on the computational fluid...
