In our research group, chiral bifunctional squaramides with different basic units have been synthesized and evaluated in various asymmetric reactions. To test the catalytic activity of organocatalysts, Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles with nitroolefins was selected as a model reaction in the first part of the study. 19 different 2-indolyl-1-nitro derivatives were synthesized with up to >99% ee in the presence of sterically encumbered tert-butyl substituted squaramide/quinine. The reaction of alkenes with AgNO2/TMSCl: The synthesis of 1,2,5-oxadiazole-2-oxides (Furoxans) via nitroso nitrates

The reaction of AgNO2/TMSCl with olefins affords nitrosonitrate, which arc converted into (alpha-nitroximes in good yield. Both nitrosonitrate and nitroximes are converted with acids into furoxane in high yield. The reaction of AgNO2 with TMSCl furnished first N2O3 and hexamethylsiloxane. The nitroso nitrates are obtained by addition of N2O3 to the olefines.

The synthesis of unusual isocoumarin derivatives: the chemistry of homophthalic acid

Homophthalic acid was reacted with thionyl chloride/DMF and ethyl chloroformate/NEt3 in the presence and absence of NaN3. In all cases completely different isocoumarin derivatives were obtained. These unusual isocournarin derivatives were characterized and their mechanism of formation is discussed.
