III-V infrared detectors on Si substrates
Beşikci, Cengiz (2000-01-28)
There has been significant interest in high quality growth of III-V infrared materials (InSb, InAsSb) on Si substrates for monolithic integration of the detector array with the read-out circuit. Growing the detector material on Si substrate also eliminates the need for yield lowering substrate thinning process in hybrid integration. While the large lattice mismatch between Si and these materials seems to be an important obstacle for growing device quality material on Si, encouraging results have been achiev...

2-POINT TRANSONIC AIRFOIL DESIGN USING OPTIMIZATION FOR IMPROVED OFF-DESIGN PERFORMANCE
HAGER, JO; Eyi, Sinan; LEE, KD (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 1994-09-01)
A two-point, aerodynamic design method is presented that improves the aerodynamic performance of transonic airfoils over a range of the flight envelope. It couples an Euler flow solver and a numerical optimization tool. The major limitation of single-point design is the poor off-design performance. Two-point design is used to extend the optimized performance range over more of the desired flight envelope. The method is applied to several transonic flow design points, and the results are compared to sing...
2-PHASE FLOW INSTABILITIES IN A HORIZONTAL SINGLE BOILING CHANNEL
Yüncü, Hafit; YILDIRIM, OT; KAKAC, S (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1991-01-01)
A study of the stability of an electrically heated single channel, forced convection horizontal system was conducted by using Freon-11 as the test fluid. Two major modes of oscillations, namely, density-wave type (high frequency) and pressure-drop type (low frequency) oscillations have been observed. The steady-state operating characteristics and stable and unstable regions are determined as a function of heat flux, exit orifice diameter and mass flow rate. Different modes of oscillations and their chara...
