This work reports the results of Large Eddy Simulation based on a dissipative 5th order finite-difference WENO scheme. with explicit subgrid model (LES) and without (ILES), in the specific case of multi-component high speed free shear flows. Transonic non-reacting and supersonic reacting H-2 jets in coflowing air, typical of scramjet engines, are chosen to be the flow prototypes for this study. Numerical simulations are performed at resolutions ranging from 32 x 32 x 128 to 256 x 256 x 1024. Explicit subgrid models are the Smagorinsky and the Selective Structure Function models, associated to molecular diffusion. Implicit LES are performed with and without molecular diffusion, by solving either the Navier Stokes or the Euler equations. In the non-reacting case, the Smagorinsky model is too dissipative, even with a low value of the constant, C-s = 0.1. The Selective Structure Function leads to better results, but does not show any superiority compared to ILES, whatever the grid resolution. In the reacting case, a molecular viscous cut-off in the simulation is mandatory to set a physical width for the reaction zone in the ILES Euler, hence to achieve grid-convergence. Experimental Study Of Robot Formation Control And Navigation Using Potential Functions And Panel Method
Merheb, Abdel Razzak; Atas, Yunus; Gazi, Veysel; Sezer Uzol, Nilay (2010-06-09)
In this paper an implementation of a collision free navigation algorithm for robot swarm based on the panel method is discussed. The well known panel method is used to solve the governing equations for inviscid incompressible potential flow around rigid objects with tangency boundary conditions, providing the robots with safe trajectories to the target. In addition, artificial potential functions are used to force the swarm to achieve a predefined geometrical shape. Experimental results are obtained using e...
Nonlinear modelling and control of the flow over aerofoils using CFD simulations
Karaca, H. D.; Alıcı, Gökçen Deniz; KASNAKOĞLU, Coşku (2016-09-01)
A simulation based approach for nonlinear dynamical modelling and feedback control of the drag to lift ratio for aerofoils is investigated through case studies involving NACA 23012, ag13 and b737a aerofoils. The flow around the aerofoils is studied via numerical solutions of the 2D Navier-Stokes (NS) equations. A standard computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver is extended to be able to measure desired feedback values and to apply a control input to the flow field. The proposed modelling and control appro...
Optimisation of dragline inspection intervals with time-counter algorithm
Gölbaşı, Onur; Demirel, Nuray (Informa UK Limited, 2017-01-01)
This research study proposed a novel algorithm, called time-counter, to optimise inspection intervals of production systems. The developed algorithm was applied to two active draglines. The algorithm evaluated random uptime/downtime characteristics of the draglines and the planned dragline halts in the mine. Physical and random non-physical costs were included and annual maintenance cost minimisation was achieved. Dragline-1 and Dragline-2 inspection intervals were optimised as 232 and 184 h and their maint...
Rigorous Analysis of Deformed Nanowires Using the Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm
Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Yilmaz, Akif; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2015-05-17)
We present accurate full-wave analysis of deformed nanowires using a rigorous simulation environment based on the multilevel fast multipole algorithm. Single nanowires as well as their arrays are deformed randomly in order to understand the effects of deformations to scattering characteristics of these structures. Results of hundreds of simulations are considered for statistically meaningful analysis of deformation effects. We show that deformations significantly enhance the forward-scattering abilities of ...
Concurrency control for distributed multiversion databases through time intervals
Halıcı, Uğur (1991-04-01)
© 1991 ACM.Multiversion Schedulers are now a widely accepted method for enhancing performance of the concurrency control component of a database. When the read and write sets of transactions are known in advance, the amount of concurrency provided by the Multiversion Schedulers can further be improved. In this paper, a new concurrency control technique, which uses multiversion data in conjunction with predeclared read-write sets and the Time Interval technique is suggested. With the proposed method, a trans...
