Neo-Iranian Nationalism: Pre-Islamic Grandeur and Shi'i Eschatology in President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's Rhetoric
Fozi, Navid (The Middle East Journal, 2016-03-01)
In 2009, Iranian president Mahmud Ahmadinejad began to invoke nationalist sentiments by paying homage to Iran's pre-Islamic history; a significant shift from 30 years of disparaging this period. Tracing the religious and political genealogies of Ahmadinejad's discourse, this article analyzes the climate that rendered both the Islamic Republic's Shi'i-oriented nationalism and the secular alternative proposed by the Pahlavi dynasty politically inadequate. Such a climate provided conditions to amalgamate, albe...
Systemic-structural approaches, world-system analysis and the study of foreign policy
Tayfur, M.Fatih (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2000-12-1)
This article aims to review and compare the systemic-structural approaches to international relations, and their impact on the study of foreign policy. Yet, the specific objective of this essay is to discuss, ‘The Modern World-System Approach’ which has been, mostly, less well understood or misunderstood, or misinterpreted by the students of international relations and foreign policy analysis. In the era of ‘globalisation’, re-visiting the systemic-structural approaches, and especially ‘the modern world-sys...

Incentive-based resource assignment and regulation for collaborative cloud services in community networks
Khan, Amin M.; Büyükşahin, Ümit C.; Freitag, Felix (Elsevier BV, 2015-12)
Community networks are a successful example of a collective where communities operate ICT infrastructure based on the principle of reciprocal sharing of network bandwidth. Cloud computing, common in today's Internet, has however not materialised within community networks. We analyse in this paper socio-technical characteristics of community networks in order to derive scenarios for community clouds. Based on an architecture for such a community cloud, we implement a prototype for the incentive-driven resour...
Pseudo-Dynamic Testing and Analytical Modeling of AAC Infilled RC Frames
Sucuoğlu, Haluk (2014-01-01)
Two concrete frames were tested by the PsD procedure. One frame was bare and the other was infilled with AAC blocks in the middle bay. The objective was to determine the effect of AAC infills on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete frames and developing an AAC strut model. Based on the test results, it was found that AAC infill panels did not modify the deformation response of the RC test frame significantly; however, shear in diagonal strut must be considered in boundary column design. A shear de...
