Cretaceous/paleogene boundary in the Haymana basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey: micropaleontological, mineralogical and sequence stratigraphic approach
Esmeray, Selen; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
An integrated micropaleontological, mineralogical and sequence stratigraphical investigation was carried out across the Cretaceous/Paleogene (K/P) boundary in the Haymana basin, Turkey. A 29.41 m thick boundary section consisting of limestones and marls was measured and 90 samples were analyzed. Biostratigraphic and chronostratigraphic works are based on the planktonic foraminifera. 64 planktonic species were identified and 5 biozones were established. The biozones are, in ascending order, Planoglobulina ac...
Tectono-stratigraphic and thermal evolution of the haymana basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey
Gülyüz, Erhan; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Department of Geological Engineering (2015)
The Haymana Basin is located on the southernmost tip of the Central Pontides and straddles between the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Zone at the north and Intra-Tauride Suture Zone at the south. These suture zones designate the former positions of various branches of the Neotethys Ocean in Turkey, the basins evolved within these zones record the progressive closure of the Neotethys and the collision between Taurides, Kırşehir Block and Pontides during late Cretaceous to Eocene time interval. The Haymana Basi...
Planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy and microfacies analysis of the cenomanian-campanian succession in the Haymana-Polatlı Basin (Ankara, Turkey)
Sarıaslan, Nisan; Altıner, Sevinç; Department of Geological Engineering (2017)
In order to establish the planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy of the Cenomanian- Campanian deposits in the Haymana-Polatlı Basin, a stratigraphic section of 93.5 meters was measured and 75 samples were collected. The stratigraphic section starts with limestones containing late Cenomanian rotaliporid and dicarinellid species and continues with early-middle Turonian aged clayey limestones with sporadic shale beds. These units are overlain by red colored Santonian limestones and shales containing abundant...
Planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy and foraminiferal response to sedimentary cyclicity in the upper cretaceous-paleocene of the Haymana basin (Central Anatolia, Turkey)
Amirov, Elnur; Altıner, Sevinç; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
The aim of this study is to establish the planktonic foraminiferal biozonation, to construct the sequence stratigraphical framework and to determine the foraminiferal response to sedimentary cyclicity in the sedimentary sequence spanning Upper Cretaceous-Paleocene in the Haymana basin (Central Anatolia, Turkey). In order to achieve this study, the stratigraphic section was measured from sedimentary sequence of the Haymana, Beyobası and Yeşilyurt formations. The sedimentary sequence is mainly characterized b...
Deep sea benthic foraminiferal diversity and abundance changes across cretaceous-paleogene boundary beds in the Haymana basin (Ankara, Turkey): paleoenvironmental implications
Vardar, Ezgi; Altıner, Sevinç; Department of Geological Engineering (2018)
In order to establish the taxonomy of deep-sea (small) benthic foraminifera and to evaluate their paleoenvironment and paleoecology in terms of relative abundances and diversity, a 14.53 meters-thick section was measured from the Haymana Formation and the Yeşilyurt Formation containing Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary beds in the northern part of the Haymana Basin, Central Turkey. 17 mudstone samples corresponding to 3.15 meters of the upper Maastrichtian and 8 mudstone-marl samples representing 1.21 meters of...
