Unit roots or nonlinear stationarity in Turkish real exchange rates
Erlat, Haluk (Informa UK Limited, 2004-08-15)
The objective of this paper is to test if Turkish real exchange rates have a linear unit root or are generated by an Exponential Smooth Transition Autoregressive Model for the post-1980 period. Using two real exchange rates, one with the USA and the other with Germany, strong evidence of nonlinear stationarity was found for the US CPI-based series but no such evidence for the DM CPI-based series. When compared with earlier results in a previous paper where the alternative of the linear unit root test was st...
Unit root problems in time series analysis
Purutcuoğlu, Vilda; Tiku, Moti Lal; Department of Statistics (2004)
In time series models, autoregressive processes are one of the most popular stochastic processes, which are stationary under certain conditions. In this study we consider nonstationary autoregressive models of order one, which have iid random errors. One of the important nonstationary time series models is the unit root process in AR (1), which simply implies that a shock to the system has permanent effect through time. Therefore, testing unit root is a very important problem. However, under nonstationarity...

Unit commitment with DGs in distribution systems
Bayat, Mohsen; Erkmen, İsmet; Şahiner, Mehmet Cem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In this thesis the impact of distributed generation (DG) on the total cost of generating electricity is investigated. A distribution system including PV (PV) generators is considered.A mixed integer linear programming based Unit Commitment algorithm is used to optimally schedule the PV generation and other conventional generation resources for 24 hours. Afterwards, a distribution system power flow algorithm is utilized to check whether the UC solution is within the thermal limitations of the distribution li...
