We construct the gauge-invariant electric and magnetic charges in Yang–Mills theory coupled to cosmological general relativity (or any other geometric gravity), extending the flat spacetime construction of Abbott and Deser (Phys Lett B 116:259–263, 1982). For non-vanishing background gauge fields, the charges receive non-trivial contribution from the gravity part. In addition, we study the constraints on the first order perturbation theory and establish the conditions for linearization instability: that is the validity of the first order perturbation theory.

Topologically massive gravity as a Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator
Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür; Tekin, Bayram (IOP Publishing, 2006-12-21)
We give a detailed account of the free- field spectrum and the Newtonian limit of the linearized ` massive' ( Pauli -Fierz), 'topologically massive' ( Einstein Hilbert - Chern - Simons) gravity in 2 + 1 dimensions about a Minkowski spacetime. For a certain ratio of the parameters, the linearized free theory is Jordan diagonalizable and reduces to a degenerate ` Pais - Uhlenbeck' oscillator which, despite being a higher derivative theory, is ghost free.
Kerr black holes and their generalizations
Cebeci, Hakan; Karasu, Emine Ayşe; Dereli, Tekin; Department of Physics (2003)
The scalar tensor theory of gravitation is constructed in D dimensions in all possible geometries of spacetime. In Riemannian geometry, theory of gravitation involves a spacetime metric g with a torsion-free, metric compatible connection structure. If the geometry is non-Riemannian, then the gauge theory of gravitation can be constructed with a spacetime metric g and a connection structure with torsion. In non-Riemannian theory, connections may be metric compatible or non-metric compatible. It is shown that...
Energy in Reboucas-Tiomno-Korotkii-Obukhov and Godel-type space-times in Bergmann-Thomson's formulations
Aydogdu, O; Salti, M; Korunur, M (2005-12-01)
We calculate the total energy (the matter plus fields) of the universe considering Bergmann-Thomson's energy-momentum formulation in both Einstein's theory of general relativity and tele-parallel gravity on two different space-times; namely Reboucas-Tiomno-Korotkii-Obukhov and the Godel-type metrics. We also compute some kinematical quantities for these space-times and find that these space-times have shear-free expansion and non-vanishing four-acceleration and vorticity. Different approximations of the Ber...
Neutrino oscillations induced by spacetime torsion
Adak, M; Dereli, T; Ryder, LH (IOP Publishing, 2001-04-21)
The gravitational neutrino oscillation problem is studied by considering the Dirac Hamiltonian in a Riemann-Cartan spacetime and calculating the dynamical phase. Torsion contributions which depend on the spin direction of the mass eigenstates are found. These effects are of the order of Planck scales.
Critical points of D-dimensional extended gravities
Deser, S.; Liu, Haishan; Lue, H.; Pope, C. N.; Sisman, Tahsin Cagri; Tekin, Bayram (2011-03-17)
We study the parameter space of D-dimensional cosmological Einstein gravity together with quadratic curvature terms. In D < 4 there are in general two distinct (anti)-de Sitter vacua. We show that, for an appropriate choice of the parameters, there exists a critical point for one of the vacua, with only massless tensor, but neither massive tensor nor scalar, gravitons. At criticality, the linearized excitations have formally vanishing energy (as do black hole solutions). A further restriction of the paramet...
