Unsteady 2-d chlorine transport in water supply pipes
Ozdemir, ON; Ger, AM (Elsevier BV, 1999-12-01)
Water supply networks are generally modelled for a day or longer time period. Under most circumstances, it is normal to omit the dispersive movement of chlorine and to assume that the convective transport dominates over dispersion. However, during night time operations the velocities are significantly decreased. This radical change in the velocity may therefore lead to the following question: can the available convection based quality models predict the chlorine concentrations accurately in time and space? ...
Unsustainable harvest of water frogs in southern Turkey for the European market

Frogs have been harvested from the wild for the last 40 years in Turkey. We analysed the population dynamics of Anatolian water frogs (Pelophylax spp.) in the Seyhan and Ceyhan Deltas during 2013–2015. We marked a total of 13,811 individuals during 3 years, estimated population sizes, simulated the dynamics of a harvested population over 50 years, and collated frog harvest and export statistics from the region and for Turkey as a whole. Our capture estimates indicated a population reduction of c. 20% per ye...

Unsupervised Metric Learning for Face Identification in TV Video
Cinbiş, Ramazan Gökberk; Schmid, Cordelia (2011-01-01)
The goal of face identification is to decide whether two faces depict the same person or not. This paper addresses the identification problem for face-tracks that are automatically collected from uncontrolled TV video data. Face-track identification is an important component in systems that automatically label characters in TV series or movies based on subtitles and/or scripts: it enables effective transfer of the sparse text-based supervision to otherfaces. We show that, without manually labeling any examp...
New Petrological Data from the Western Termination of East Anatolian Accretionary Complex EAAC Eastern Turkey
Aktağ, Alican; Sançar, Taylan; Önal, Ali; Çimen, Okay (2014-04-12)
Geodynamic characteristics of the East Anatolian Accretionary Complex (EAAC) have been one of the major research topic for last a few decades. The models hitherto try to interpret the role of Teritiary volcanism in EAAC were not wealthy, due to the few geochemical, isotopic and radiometric age data. Furthermore, since boundary of EAAC is delimited by geophysical methods, discussion about relationship between EAAC volcanism and other volcanics, which is close proximity with EAAC, is not sufficiently examined...
