Synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched and air drying fatty acid based resins
Bat, Erhan; Gündüz, Güngör; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
There has been a considerable effort in the last years to decrease the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) present in organic coatings. The risks to human health and environmental hazards associated with VOCs, governmental directives, and economic factors are the main driving forces behind this effort. One way of achieving less or no VOC containing coating systems is to produce low viscosity resins. Hyperbranched resins owing to their globular structure have low viscosities and are promising materia...
SYNTHESIS OF MAINLY LINEAR POLY(DICHLOROPHENYLENE OXIDE)S BY THERMAL POLYMERIZATION IN SOLUTION
SANLI, O; KISAKUREK, D (1992-03-01)
Thermal decomposition of bis(4-bromo-2,6-dichlorophenoxo)-(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine)copper(II) complex in toluene, bis(4-bromo-2,6-dichlorophenoxo)(N,N-dimethylformamide)copper(II) complex in N,N-dimethylformamide and bis(4-bromo-2,6-dichlorophenoxo)dimethyl sulfoxide)copper(II) complex in dimethyl sulfoxide was achieved at 70-degrees-C. 4-Bromo-2,6-dichlorophenol derivatives prefer 1,4-addition to 1,2-addition, leading to highly linear polymers irrespective of the substituted ligands. The compl...
Production of ammonium nitrohumate from Elbistan lignite and its use as a coal binder
Yildirim, M; Ozbayoglu, G (1997-04-01)
The conversion of Elbistan lignite into nitrogen-rich, alkali-soluble humic acid (ammonium nitrohumate) and its use as a coal binder were investigated. The optimum conditions for nitric acid oxidation and ammoniation were determined. The optimum HNO3 concentration was determined as 4.87 wt%. As a result, a humic acid solution containing 10.75 wt% nitrogen was obtained with 88.2 wt% recovery from Elbistan lignite. Coal-derived humic acid was used as a binder in briquetting of Tuncbilek lignite fines. It was ...
A method to synchronize the tandem dragline systems
Erdem, B; Celebi, N (1999-04-01)
An important problem associated with tandem dragline systems is that of matching the productive capability of individual draglines in the combination. In this paper, a dependence mechanism among draglines in a tandem system is described, and possible consequential problems in a poorly-matched system are defined. The rate of linear advance and the cost of stripping are determined as two major indications for an efficient operation. The proposed decision criteria and the underlying mechanism to select a synch...
Characterization and reactivity studies for chemical loop gasification of high sulfur lignites
Kanca, Arzu; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2013)
The objective of this study was to characterize and to determine the gasification reactivity of Tuncbilek lignites. The ultimate analysis of Tuncbilek lignite revealed that the elemental composition is 37.7% C, 3.6% H, 1.6% N, and 5.4% S, while the proximate analysis indicated 4.7 ± 0.9% moisture 27.9 ± 0.1% volatiles and 37.9 ± 0.2% ash. In this context, four different reactions during gasification namely, pyrolysis, oxidation, hydrogenation, and wet air oxidation were investigated separately. Carbon resid...
