Finite element implementation of a model to estimate the permanent strain of cyclically-loaded soil
Babaoğlu, Muhittin; Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan; Department of Civil Engineering (2020)
In vast majority of geotechnical structures such as monopile or strip foundation, which are subjected to repeated loading, long-term resilience of the structures is directly related with the behavior of granular materials subjected to cyclic loading. Repeatedly loaded structure distributes stress to soil that surrounds the structure. When granular materials are exposed to cyclic loading, plastic strain occurs despite the applied stress is less than plastic yield, which results to residual settlement. This t...

Tekrarlı Direk Kesme Deneyi ile Ankara Kilinin Rezidüel Kayma Dayanımı
Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan (null; 2013-12-05)
Drained r esidual shear strength of stiff (overconsolidated) clays develop after some cumulative shear displacements, due to parallel alignment of plate - shaped clay particles under normal and shear stresses , in the direction of shear. Residual sh ear strength is the lowest constant shear resistance of a stiff clay and it can be obtained by ring shear or reversal direct shear box tests. The goal of this study is to determine the drained res...

Buildings under recurring near-field earthquakes
Beyhan, Bayhan; Gülkan, Polat; Yakut, Ahmet; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
Prior to this study, to our best knowledge, no cast-in-place, older-type RC building has ever been subjected to near-field strong ground motions from three major earthquakes. This happened in an indirect way in Turkey over a time span of eleven years. Three identical buildings belonging to Ministry of Public Works and Resettlement (MPWR) that had been built to the same design templates, experienced March 13th 1992 Erzincan earthquake in Erzincan, November 12th 1999 Düzce earthquake in Bolu and May 1st 2003 ...
