Alterations of ceramide/sphingosine 1-phosphate rheostat involved in the regulation of resistance to imatinib-induced apoptosis in K562 human chronic myeloid leukemia cells
Baran, Yusuf; Salas, Arelis; Senkal, Can E.; Gündüz, Ufuk; Bielawski, Jacek; Obeid, Lina M.; Ogretmen, Besim (2007-04-13)
In this study, mechanisms of resistance to imatinib-induced apoptosis in human K562 cells were examined. Continuous exposure to stepwise increasing concentrations of imatinib resulted in the selection of K562/IMA-0.2 and -1 cells, which expressed similar to 2.3- and 19-fold resistance, respectively. Measurement of endogenous ceramides by high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy showed that treatment with imatinib increased the generation of ceramide, mainly C-18-ceramide, which is generated ...
Alterations of hypothalamic neuropeptides involved in food intake and appetite in olanzapine monotherapy
Sezlev, Deniz; Yanık, Tülin; Department of Biology (2012)
The mechanism of weight gain due to treatment with olanzapine, a serotonin receptor antagonist, has not been fully understood. Weight gain and food intake are under the control of neuropeptides/hormones, POMC (proopiomelanocortin), CART (cocaine and amphetamine regulated transcript), AgRP (Agouti-related peptide) and NPY (neuropeptide Y) that are synthesized and secreted from the arcuate nucleus (ARC) of hypothalamus. In this study, the altereration of the ARC neuropeptide/hormone levels both in humans and ...

Variation of photoluminescence from Si nanostructures in SiO2 matrix with Si+ post implantation
Serincan, U.; Kulakci, M.; Turan, Raşit; Foss, S.; Finstad, T. G. (Elsevier BV, 2007-01-01)
Si nanoclusters were formed by Si-28 ion implantation into SiO2 matrix and subsequently annealed at 1050 degrees C for 2 h under N-2 ambient. The photoluminescence (PL) characteristics depend on the Si-28 fluence. The PL signals seen at around 775 mn and 825 nm are assigned to light emitting centers connected to formation of Si clusters, for 5 x 10(16) cm(-2) and 1 x 10(17) cm(-2) Si-28 fluences, respectively. Defect-related light emission observed at around 625 nm emerges only in the case of high implantat...
Modifications of Quinoxaline on the Polymeric Materials for Optoelectronic Devices
Cevher, Şevki Can; Temiz, Cansel; Hızalan Özsoy, Gönül; Udum, Yasemin; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (null; 2016-05-02)
This study demonstrates that, modifying the rigidity and structural changes on the polymeric materials dictate the optic and electronic properties. Three different conjugated quinoxaline and benzotriazole based polymers were synthesized via Stille cross coupling chemical polymerization method. All changes were localized on the quinoxaline moiety of the conjugated polymers. Characterizations of polymers were done in terms of molecular weight (GPC), absorption wavelengths (Uv-vis spec.), and electronic proper...
