Cloaking Dynamics on Lubricant-Infused Surfaces
Günay, Ahmet Alperen; Sett, Soumyadip; Ge, Qiaoyu; Zhang, Tiejun; Miljkovic, Nenad (2020-10-01)
Lubricant-infused surfaces (SLIPSs/LISs) enable omniphobicity by reducing droplet pinning through creation of an atomically smooth liquid-liquid interface. Although SLIPSs/LISs provide efficient omniphobicity, the need for lubricant adds additional barriers to heat and mass transport and affects three-phase contact line dynamics. Here, evaporation dynamics of microscale water droplets on SLIPSs/LISs are investigated using steady and transient methods. Although steady results demonstrate that evaporation on ...
Coatings of hydroxyapatite - nanosize alpha alumina composites on Ti-6Al-4V
Evis, Zafer (Elsevier BV, 2005-12-01)
Composites of hydroxyapatite (HA) and nanosize-alpha-(alpha)-Al2O3 with 5 wt.% CaF2 were coated on Ti-6Al-4V rods by cold pressing and sintered in air or argon atmosphere at 1100 degrees C to improve the bonding between the metal and the ceramic. 25 and 40 wt.% alpha-Al2O3-5 wt.% CaF2-HA composites gave the best results of strong bonding. 25 wt.% alpha-Al2O3-5 wt.% CaF2-HA and Ti-6Al-4V showed the same thermal expansion coefficients. The thermal expansion coefficient of the 40 wt.% alpha-Al2O3-5 wt.% CaF2-H...

Coating of iron oxide pellets for direct reduction
Basdag, A; Arol, Ali İhsan (2002-06-01)
Depending upon their chemical composition and, to a lesser extent, on their physical properties, iron oxide pellets exhibit varying degrees of sticking tendency during direct reduction at elevated temperatures. For an efficient shaft furnace operation in direct reduction (DR), it is imperative to prevent pellets from sticking to each other and, hence, forming clusters. Coating of pellets with a suitable inorganic material has increasingly been gaining recognition amongst the pellet producers and DR plant op...
