Effect of thickness and pre-crack length on delamination of unidirectional l-shaped laminated composites
Gozluklu, Burak; Yavas, Denizhan; Çöker, Demirkan (null; 2012-12-01)
It is widely assumed that delamination initiates at the curved region of the Lshaped laminate leading to loss of loading carrying capacity. However, as shown in this paper, under certain conditions a second failure mode in thick L-shaped laminates is observed in which a secondary crack initiates at the arm region. Delamination in L-shaped laminates is modeled using dynamic (explicit) finite element analysis in conjunction with cohesive zone methods. The 2-D model consists of 24 plies of unidirectional CFRP ...
Effect of TiH2 particle size on foaming of aluminium
Kubilay, Ceylan; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
A study is carried out on the production of aluminum foams via powder processing. The study deals mainly with the effect of TiH2 particle size on the process of foaming. Mainly two TiH2 particle sizes were used; namely 27,5 ?m and 8,5 ?m. Foaming experiments were carried out at temperatures between 675oC ا 840oC. The viscosity of the system is adjusted by controlled addition of Al2O3. The study shows that choice of foaming agent size is influential in the foaming process. With the use of fine foaming agent,...
EFFECT OF SALT-WATER FOG ON FATIGUE CRACK-GROWTH BEHAVIOR OF 7050-ALUMINUM ALLOY IN DIFFERENT ORIENTATIONS
Gürbüz, Rıza; SCHUTZ, W (1991-02-15)
The fatigue crack growth behaviour of 7050 T73651 high strength aluminium alloy that was originally developed for the aircraft industry was investigated in this study. The tests were conducted by using C-T specimens machined in six orientations under the action of constant amplitude sinusoidal load cycles. The tests were first carried out in laboratory air and then repeated in salt-water fog of a 5% NaCl solution to observe the effect of the environment on the fatigue crack growth behaviour. The experime...
Effect of cooling rate on microstructure and high temperature stability of rapidly solidified Al-Fe-V-Si alloys
Kalkanlı, Ali (Informa UK Limited, 1999-01-01)
Recently, AI-Fe-V-Si alloys have received more attention owing to their high temperature stability associated with vanadium rich precipitates and silicides. In this work, a series of alloys was prepared and processed by melt spinning and gas atomisation to observe the effect of solidification rate on crystal structures existing in both as cast and heat treated conditions. This study covers their microstructural examination and crystallography. The composition of these alloys was Al-(6.8-7.8)Fe-( 1.0-3)V-(1....
