A fabrication-oriented remeshing method for auxetic pattern extraction
Mert, Levend Mehmet; Yaman, Ulaş; Sahillioğlu, Yusuf (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2020-01-01)
We propose a method for extracting auxetic patterns from meshes for fabrication by modifying the existing mesh primitives directly and fully automatically. This direct approach is novel in the sense that most of the fabrication-oriented surface tiling methods introduce additional primitives, such as curve networks in an interactive semiautomatic framework. Our method is based on a remeshing procedure that converts a given quad mesh with arbitrary topology into our desired structure that is ready to be fabri...
A facile method for the recovery of ionic liquid and lignin from biomass pretreatment
DIBBLE, DEAN; LI, CHENLIN; LAN, SUN; GEORGE, ANTHE; CHENG, AURELIA; Persil Çetinkol, Özgül; BENKE, PETER; HOLMES, BRADLEY; SINGH, SEEMA; SIMMONS, BLAKE (2011-01-01)
In the biochemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to biofuels, the process of pretreatment is currently one of the most difficult and expensive operations. The use of ionic liquids (ILs) in biomass pretreatment has received considerable attention recently because of their effectiveness at decreasing biomass recalcitrance to subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis. In addition, ILs have the potential for decreasing the need for corrosive or toxic chemicals and associated waste streams that can be generated by...
A parametric design method for CFD-supported wind-driven ventilation
Abbas, Günsu Merin; Gürsel Dino, İpek (2019-09-07)
The negative impact of the building industry has brought a critical emphasis on the performance-related tools and processes of architectural design. The integration of design and performance simulation has the potential to extend the decision-making capabilities of the architects. Amongst a number of performance parameters, wind-related measures are generally problematic for the design phase, due to the computational cost of predicting wind behaviour, the complexity of the urban context and the constantly c...
A bias heating cancellation method for resistive uncooled microbolometer detectors
Oguz, Alp; Tepegoz, Murat; Akın, Tayfun (2009-04-17)
This paper proposes a new method to suppress the bias heating effect of the resistive uncooled microbolometer detectors. The bias heating effect especially limits the performance where long integration time and large detector bias voltages are required. The proposed method uses a number of reference detectors for each column of the FPA where the reference detectors have an optimized thermal conductance and are covered by an infrared reflecting material in order to achieve high infrared blindness. The heatin...
A PARYLENE BONDING BASED FABRICATION METHOD FOR GRAVIMETRIC RESONANT BASED MASS SENSORS
Gokce, Furkan; Aydın, Eren; Kangül, Mustafa; Toral, Taylan B.; Zorlu, Ozge; Sardan-Sukas, Ozlem; Külah, Haluk (2017-06-22)
In this study, a fabrication method utilizing parylene bonding for gravimetric resonant based mass sensors is presented. First, parylene bonding was experimentally tested and compared with the literature. Average shear strength was measured as 16.3 MPa (sigma=3MPa). Then, resonators located on top of a microchannel for real-time detection were fabricated using the presented method. Simulations and experiments verify proper operation of the fabricated resonators, and the applicability of the method for fabri...
