The Nonlinear Theory of the Snoek Relaxation Effect under the Strong and Homogeneous Bias Stress System
Ogurtani, Tarik Ömer (Wiley, 1987-11-1)
The nonlinear theory of energy dissipation associated with the mobile paraelastic octahedral interstitial atoms in inhomogeneous interaction fields is applied to the specific problem of the ordinary Snoek relaxation under the influence of the uniform static stress system (an external bias field). In the case of a uniaxial static bias stress system, an extremely accurate and simple analytical expression is deduced for the logarithmic decrement which indicates strong dependence on the magnitude, sign, and dir...
The frictional contact problem of sliding rigid parabolic stamps on graded materials
GÜLER, MEHMET ALİ; Erdogan, F.; Dağ, Serkan (2006-10-18)
This study presents an analytical procedure to determine the contact stress distribution at the surface of an FGM coating perfectly bonded to a homogeneous substrate. The coating is assumed to be loaded by a rigid stamp of a semi-circular or circular profile. Using Fourier transformations, the contact mechanics problems are reduced to a singular integral equation of the second kind. Singular behavior of the unknown contact stress distribution at the end points is determined by following a function theoretic...
The physics of randomness and regularities for languages in terms of random matrices
Tuncay, C. (IOP Publishing, 2008-04-01)
The physics of randomness and regularities for languages (mother tongues) and their lifetimes and family trees and for the second languages (bilinguals) are studied in terms of two processes: random multiplicative noise and fragmentation. We start with various random initial worlds and come out with regularities which are all similar to the present empirical data for the above-mentioned terms. Copyright (c) EPLA, 2008.
