HYDROGRAPHIC PROPERTIES AND VENTILATION OF THE BLACK-SEA
MURRAY, JW; TOP, Z; OZSOY, E (Elsevier BV, 1991-01-01)
Using hydrographic data collected by CTD during five cruises of the 1988 Black Sea Oceanographic Expedition, from 16 April to 29 July 1988, we describe the distribution of potential temperature (theta), salinity (S), and potential density (sigma(theta)) throughout the water column. The salinity and density increase rapidly with depth, while temperature decreases to a minimum at 50 m in the cold intermediate layer (CIL). All three variables increase slowly with depth in the deep water. The hydrographic pr...
Hydrography of the Bosphorus Strait, and the effects to submarine constructions
Yuksel, Y; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Guler, I; Mater, B; Erturk, F (2003-01-01)
The Bosphorus strait is an outstanding example of the sea straits with its spatial and temporal change of current pattern. The Bosphorus Strait is a strongly stratified two-layer system and a unique case of the maximal exchange regime of strait flows, which largely determines the properties of the Black Sea. In this study, the latest investigations will be compiled with the old ones and also the effect of an underwater construction in the Bosphorus will be discussed. Hence the impacts of an underwater const...

Hydrologic Model Component of an Atmospheric-Hydrologic Model-Based Real-Time Flood Forecasting System for the Klzlllrmak River Basin in Turkey
Ercan, Ali; Chen, Z. Q. Richard; Ishida, Kei; Ohara, Noriaki; Kavvas, M. Levent; Daǧdeviren, Murat; Selek, Bülent (2016-01-01)
Klzlllrmak river, with a drainage area of more than 75,000 km2, is the longest river among the rivers which originate and end in Turkey. A coupled atmospheric-hydrologic model based real-time precipitation and flood forecasting system for Klzlllrmak river basin was developed and became operational recently. This real-time forecasting system utilizes the Global Forecast System (GFS) global numerical weather forecasts as the initial conditions and the boundary conditions for the mesoscale atmospheric model WR...
