Engineering characteristics of the near-field strong motions from the 1999 Kocaeli and Duzce Earthquakes in Turkey
Sucuoğlu, Haluk (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2002-07-01)
The purpose of this paper is to summarize the strong motion data from the nearest stations to the fault ruptures of the August 17, 1999 Kocaeli and November 12, 1999 Duzce earthquakes and to document information that will be significant for its interpretation. Significant engineering characteristics of the near-field strong motions are discussed, with particular emphasis on the site conditions, rupture directivity effects and transverse component orientations relative to the fault. In the course of this stu...
23 Ekim 2011 Tabanlı Van depreminin sismik jeomorfolojisi ve Doğu Anadolu daki aktif tektonik yapılarla olan ilişkisi

This study aims to explore the origin and location of the October 23, 2011 Tabanlı-Van earthquake within active tectonic framework of Van city and its surroundings. Field-based studies have been done just after the Tabanlı-Van earthquake, and then geometry and type of observed deformational structures were evaluated and integrated with the results of previous active tectonic studies in the region. The observed structures can, based on seismic geomorphological indicators, be grouped into two main categories:...

Seismic response of a rubble mound breakwater in Turkey
Yuksel, Y; Çetin, Kemal Önder; Ozguven, O; Isik, NS; Cevik, E; Sumer, BM (Thomas Telford Ltd., 2004-12-01)
This paper presents analyses of seismically induced deformations at Eregli Fishery Port breakwater during the 1999 Kocaeli (Izmit), Turkey earthquake. The paper discusses: (a) observed ground deformations and displacements after the earthquake; (b) the results of field investigations by means of borings including standard penetration tests; (c) analyses of observed deformation mechanisms by a suite of methods; and (d) the possible contribution of soil liquefaction rupture on the observed deformations.
Dynamic fracture of explosive bolt
Gökçe, Batuhan; Dal, Hüsnü; Yıldırım, Raif Orhan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
In this study, dynamic fracture of the pressure type explosive bolt is established with different geometry of the piston, which is used to break the body, to enhance the reliability of the system. Before the fracture analysis of the explosive bolts, pyrotechnic combustion analysis is studied and 0-D ballistic solver is developed to simulate the performance of the initiator into the pyrotechnic, namely pressure type, explosive bolt. By using the developed model, the pressure and temperature in the expansion ...
