The application of oxidized AlxGa1-xAs in guided wave optics is demonstrated. A low index of refraction of oxidized AlxGa1-xAs is utilized for stronger optical confinement to reduce electrode related losses and to increase birefringence in polarization splitting directional couplers.

Stability and noise current of a hybrid UV photodetector with inverted planar heterojunction (PHJ) structure indium-tin-oxide/ZnO nanoparticles (NPs)/poly[9,9-dioctyl-fluorene-2,7-diyl]-copoly[diphenyl-p-tolyl-amine-4,4-diyl] (BFE)/Ag are investigated. ZnO NPs as the acceptor and BFE as the donor were deposited as the active layer. Under UV light illumination, light to dark current ratio of about 10(2) is observed at a very low bias voltage of -1.5 V. The spectral response of the device is located near UV r...
High gradient plasma waves to accelerate charged particles
Yedierler, Burak; Bilikmen, Kadri Sinan; Department of Physics (2002)
In this thesis one of the most promising plasma based particle acceleration methods, the Laser Wakefield Acceleration (LWFA) mechanism is discussed in detail. Starting from the standard LWFA method, the wakefield generation in plasmas and the energy gain of electrons are formulated. The wakefield generation by a multi passage laser beam in a plasma model based on the resonant LWFA is proposed. The growth of the wakefield amplitude is demonstrated and the corresponding energy gain of electrons is calculated....
Low-frequency conductivity tensor imaging with a single current injection using DT-MREIT
Sadighi, Mehdi; Şişman, Mert; Acikgoz, Berk C.; Eroglu, Hasan H.; Eyüboğlu, Behçet Murat (2021-03-01)
Diffusion tensor-magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (DT-MREIT) is an imaging modality to obtain low-frequency anisotropic conductivity distribution employing diffusion tensor imaging and MREIT techniques. DT-MREIT is based on the linear relationship between the conductivity and water self-diffusion tensors in a porous medium, like the brain white matter. Several DT-MREIT studies in the literature provide cross-sectional anisotropic conductivity images of tissue phantoms, canine brain, and th...
Low frequency magnetic resonance conductivity imaging by means of oscillating gradient fields
Eroğlu, Hasan Hüseyin; Sadighi, Mehdi; Eyüboğlu, Behçet Murat (null; 2018-06-16)
Recently, low frequency (LF) magnetic resonance electrical conductivity imaging by means of oscillating gradient fields is reported to be infeasible. In thesestudies, LF phase measurements are modeled with radio frequency (RF) leakage due to geometric shifts in MR images. Although RF leakage is related withconductivity, we have not come across a conductivity image reconstructed using this model. In this study, LF conductivity imaging is evaluated for an MRIpulse sequence including multiple gradient pulses. ...
Low temperature operation of APD for quantum cryptographic applications
Kale, Zuhal; Ergül, Rüyal; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
This thesis explains low temperature operation of an InGaAs Avalanche Photo Diode (APD) cooled using thermoelectric coolers in order to utilize in the quantum cryptographic applications. A theoretical background for the equipment used in the experiment was provided. Circuitry and mechanics used for the low temperature operation were designed. Performance measures for APD were explained and experiment results were presented.
