Starting from the beginning of the new millennium, thanks to the Charged-Coupled Device (CCD) technology, fully or partly automatic zenith camera systems are designed and used in order to determine astro-geodetic deflections of the vertical components in several countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Serbia, Latvia, Poland, Austria, China and Turkey. The Digital Zenith Camera System (DZCS) of Turkey performed successful observations yet it needs to be improved in terms of automating the system and increasing observation accuracy. In order to optimize the observation time and improve the system, some modifications have been implemented. Through the modification process that started at the beginning of 2016, some DZCS components have been replaced with the new ones and some new additional components have been installed. In this presentation, the ongoing calibration and testing process of the DZCS are summarized in general. In particular, one of the tested system components is the High Resolution Tiltmeter (HRTM), which enable orthogonal orientation of DZCS to the direction of plump line, is discussed. For the calibration of these components, two tiltmeters with different accuracies (1 nrad and 0.001 mrad) were observed nearly 30 days. The data recorded under different environmental conditions were divided into hourly, daily, and weekly subsets. In addition to the effects of temperature and humidity, interoperability of two tiltmeters were also investigated. Results show that with the integration of HRTM and the other implementations, the modified DZCS provides higher accuracy for the determination of vertical deflections.

Reconfigurable antennas using RF-MEMS research in Turkey
Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Demir, Şimşek; Akın, Tayfun (2011-06-10)
A review of the on-going research in Turkey, -in Middle East Technical University (METU)-, on tunable microwave components and reconfigurable antennas produced by RF MEMS technology is presented in this paper. As a key element of reconfigurable structures, several capacitive contact shunt RF MEMS switches are designed, fabricated and measured. Lifetime measurements show that these switches can operate more than 3.2 billion cycles with a bipolar actuation without any degradation in performance. Design and me...
A cross-cultural comparison and modeling of information and communication technologies aspects affecting mathematical and problem solving literacy and perceptions of policy makers
Şahinkayası, Yunis; Yıldırım, İbrahim Soner; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2008)
The purpose of this study was to compare Turkey and the European Union (EU) regarding aspects (use, self-confidence and attitude) of students’ information and communication technologies (ICT), the relationships between ICT aspects and mathematical and problem solving literacy performances, and to understand education policy makers’ perceptions on ICT in Turkey. A multimethod (quantitative and qualitative) research design was used in this study. Country groups an EU member group, a new EU member group and Tu...
Design and implementation of a feeder automation system for distribution networks
Ozay, N.; Güven, Ali Nezih; Buyuksemerci, A.; Fettahlioglu, M. (1999-01-01)
This paper presents the design specifications and features of the automation system that is currently being applied to the distribution network of Istanbul. This system as a whole (software and hardware) has been designed, implemented, tested and integrated using the highest technology available complying with relevant international standards. The most prominent feature of the system is the capability of automatic fault detection and isolation on medium voltage feeders, a function which became a necessity w...
