Terahertz pulsed imaging study of dental caries
Karagöz, Burcu; Altan, Hakan (2015-06-23)
Current diagnostic techniques in dentistry rely predominantly on X-rays to monitor dental caries. Terahertz Pulsed Imaging (TPI) has great potential for medical applications since it is a nondestructive imaging method. It does not cause any ionization hazard on biological samples due to low energy of THz radiation. Even though it is strongly absorbed by water which exhibits very unique chemical and physical properties that contribute to strong interaction with THz radiation, teeth can still be investigated ...
Terahertz pulsed imaging for the monitoring of dental caries: a comparison with X-ray imaging
Karagöz, Burcu; Altan, Hakan (2017-06-29)
Dental caries in sliced samples are investigated using terahertz pulsed imaging. Frequency domain terahertz response of these structures consistent with X-ray imaging results show the potential of this technique in the detection of early caries.
Terahertz metamaterial absorber comprised of H-shaped resonator within split-square ring and its sensory application
Faruk, Ahmet; Sabah, Cumali (Elsevier BV, 2019-09-01)
Terahertz region has become very attractive for new applications however, the materials that work in this region are very limited. Within the aim of providing a new instrument that can be used in this field, we designed and analyzed a new metamaterial (MTM) absorber and MTM absorber sensor for Sub-Terahertz region. As a first step, the structure was designed and the electromagnetic response of the design was analyzed. The perfect absorption with 99.9% absorption rate was achieved for the resonant frequency ...
Terahertz spectroscopy of explosives and simulants - RDX, PETN, sugar and L-tartaric acid
Konek, Christopher; WİLKİNSON, John; Esentürk, Okan; HEİLWEİL, Edwin; KEMP, Michael (2009-04-15)
We report on the transmission and reflection terahertz (THz) spectra of the high explosives RDX and PETN. These common military explosives are compared to simulants L-tartaric acid and sucrose, respectively. The use of these simulants enables researchers to develop many aspects of THz spectroscopy for explosives detection without the need for live explosives. Further, we discuss the effect of sample preparation on the THz spectrum of RDX and demonstrate that experiments performed on different terahertz inst...
